Lo! among you there is he who loitereth; and if disaster overtook you, he would say: Allah hath been gracious unto me since I was not present with them. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Among you is indeed he who drags his feet, and should an affliction visit you, he says, [It was certainly Allah]s blessing that I did not accompany them!] - Qarai, Ali Quli

There are some among you who lag behind (in battle) and if you were to experience hardship, they would say, [It was certainly due to God's favors to us that we were not present with them,] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And surely among you is he who would certainly hang back! If then a misfortune befalls you he says: Surely Allah conferred a benefit on me that I was not present with them. - Shakir, Habib

تم میں ایسے لوگ بھی گھس گئے ہیں جو لوگوں کو روکیں گے اور اگر تم پر کوئی مصیبت آگئی تو کہیں گے کہ خد انے ہم پر احسان کیا کہ ہم ان کے ساتھ حاضر نہیں تھے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وَلَئِنْ أَصَٰبَكُمْ فَضْلٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمْ تَكُنۢ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُۥ مَوَدَّةٌۭ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ مَعَهُمْ فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًۭا [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And if a bounty from Allah befell you, he would surely cry, as if there had been no love between you and him: Oh, would that I had been with them, then should I have achieved a great success! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

But should a bounty from Allah come to you, he will say—as if there were no [tie of friendship and] affection between you and him—[I wish I were with them so that I had achieved a great success!] - Qarai, Ali Quli

but if you were to receive a favor from God, they would certainly say, [(We have been ignored) as if there was no friendship among us. Would that we had been there with them for we would have had a great success.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And if grace from Allah come to you, he would certainly cry out, as if there had not been any friendship between you and him: Would that I had been with them, then I should have attained a mighty good fortune. - Shakir, Habib

But if, by God's grace, good fortune should be your lot, they will say, [If only I had been with them I should have achieved a great success,] as if no affection had existed between you and them. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر تمہیں خدائی فضل و کرم مل گیا تو اس طرح جیسے تمہارے ان کے درمیان کبھی دوستی ہی نہیں تھی کہنے لگیں گے کہ کاش ہم بھی ان کے ساتھ ہوتے اور کامیابی کی عظیم منزل پر فائز ہوجاتے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور اگر اللہ کی طرف سے تم پر فضل ہو تو کہتا ہے اور اس طرح کہتا ہے کہ گویا تمہارے اور اس کے درمیان محبت کا تو کوئی تعلق تھا ہی نہیں کہ کاش میں بھی ان کے ساتھ ہوتا تو بڑا کام بن جاتا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

فَلْيُقَٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَن يُقَٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Let those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the way of Allah; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, and then is slain, or he subdues [the enemy], We shall soon give him a great reward. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Those who want to buy the life hereafter with this life should fight for the cause of God. We will give them a great reward whether they are killed or whether they are victorious. - Sarwar, Muhammad

اب ضرورت ہے کہ راسِ خدا میں وہ لوگ جہاد کریں جو زندگانی دنیا کو آخرت کے عوض بیچ ڈالتے ہیں اور جو بھی راسِ خدا میں جہاد کرے گا وہ قتل ہوجائے یا غالب آجائے دونوں صورتوں میں ہم اسے اج» عظیم عطا کریں گے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

(ایسے لوگوں کو معلوم ہو کہ) اللہ کی راہ میں لڑنا چاہیے اُن لوگوں کو جو آخرت کے بدلے دنیا کی زندگی کو فروخت کر دیں، پھر جو اللہ کی راہ میں لڑے گا اور مارا جائے گا یا غالب رہے گا اُسے ضرور ہم اجر عظیم عطا کریں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تو انہیں اللہ کی راہ میں لڑنا چاہئے جو دنیا کی زندگی بیچ کر آخرت لیتے ہیں اور جو اللہ کی راہ میں لڑے پھر مارا جائے یا غالب آئے تو عنقریب ہم اسے بڑا ثواب دیں گے، - Ahmed Raza

And what is
لَكُمْ
for you that
لَا
not
تُقَٰتِلُونَ
you fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
way of
ٱللَّهِ
the One,
وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ
and for those who are feeble
مِنَ
from
ٱلرِّجَالِ
the men
وَٱلنِّسَآءِ
and the women
وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ
and the children,
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
يَقُولُونَ
say,
رَبَّنَآ
[Our Lord!
أَخْرِجْنَا
Bring us out
مِنْ
from
هَٰذِهِ
this
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ
settlement where
ٱلظَّالِمِ
the unjust
أَهْلُهَا
are its residents,
وَٱجْعَل
and determine
لَّنَا
for us
مِن
from
لَّدُنكَ
Yourself
وَلِيًّۭا
protection,
وَٱجْعَل
and determine
لَّنَا
for us
مِن
from
لَّدُنكَ
Yourself
نَصِيرًا
a helper.]
٤
٧٥
وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ وَٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هَٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ٱلظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّۭا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ نَصِيرًا And what is for you that not you fight in way of the One, and for those who are feeble from the men and the women and the children, the ones who say, [Our Lord! Bring us out from this settlement where the unjust are its residents, and determine for us from Yourself protection, and determine for us from Yourself a helper.]

How should ye not fight for the cause of Allah and of the feeble among men and of the women and the children who are crying: Our Lord! Bring us forth from out this town of which the people are oppressors! Oh, give us from thy presence some protecting friend! Oh, give us from Thy presence some defender! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Why should you not fight in the way of Allah and the oppressed men, women, and children, who say, [Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us a guardian from Yourself, and appoint for us a helper from Yourself]? - Qarai, Ali Quli

Why do you not fight for the cause of God or save the helpless men, women, and children who cry out, [Lord, set us free from this town of wrong doers and send us a guardian and a helper?] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper. - Shakir, Habib

And how should you not fight for the cause of God, and for the helpless old men, women, and children who say, [Deliver us, Lord, from this city of wrongdoers, grant us a protector out of Your grace and grant us a supporter out of Your grace?] - Wahiduddin Khan

اور آخر تمہیں کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ تم اللہ کی راہ میں اور ان کمزور مردوں, عورتوں اور بچوں کے لئے جہاد نہیں کرتے ہو جنہیں کمزور بناکر رکھا گیا ہے اور جو برابر دعا کرتے ہیں کہ خدایا ہمیں اس قریہ سے نجات دے دے جس کے باشندے ظالم ہیں اور ہمارے لئے کوئی سرپرست اور اپنی طرف سے مددگار قرار دے دے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

آخر کیا وجہ ہے کہ تم اللہ کی راہ میں اُن بے بس مردوں، عورتوں اور بچوں کی خاطر نہ لڑو جو کمزور پاکر دبا لیے گئے ہیں اور فریاد کر رہے ہیں کہ خدایا ہم کو اس بستی سے نکال جس کے باشندے ظالم ہیں اور اپنی طرف سے ہمارا کوئی حامی و مدد گار پیدا کر دے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور تمہیں کیا ہوا کہ نہ لڑو اللہ کی راہ میں اور کمزور مردوں اور عورتوں اور بچوں کے واسطے یہ دعا کررہے ہیں کہ اے ہمارے رب ہمیں اس بستی سے نکال جس کے لوگ ظالم ہیں اور ہمیں اپنے پاس سے کوئی حمایتی دے دے اور ہمیں اپنے پاس سے کوئی مددگار دے دے، - Ahmed Raza

آخر تمہیں کیا ہوگیا ہے؟ کہ تم جنگ نہیں کرتے راہ خدا میں اور ان کمزور مردوں، عورتوں اور بچوں کی خاطر جو فریاد کر رہے ہیں۔ پروردگار! ہمیں اس بستی سے نکال دے۔ جس کے باشندے ظالم ہیں اور اپنی طرف سے ہمارے لئے کوئی سرپرست اور حامی و مددگار بنا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

The ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
are convinced,
يُقَٰتِلُونَ
they fight
فِى

سَبِيلِ
way of
ٱللَّهِ
the One;
ۖ
وَٱلَّذِينَ
while the ones who
كَفَرُوا۟
are in denial,
يُقَٰتِلُونَ
they fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
way of
ٱلطَّٰغُوتِ
the tyranny,
فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟
so fight
أَوْلِيَآءَ
the protectors of
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
the fiends;
ۖ
إِنَّ
surely
كَيْدَ
deception of
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
the fiend
كَانَ
has been
ضَعِيفًا
weak.
٤
٧٦
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱلطَّٰغُوتِ فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا The ones who are convinced, they fight in way of the One; while the ones who are in denial, they fight in way of the tyranny, so fight the protectors of the fiends; surely deception of the fiend has been weak.

Those who believe do battle for the cause of Allah; and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of idols. So fight the minions of the devil. Lo! the devil's strategy is ever weak. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Those who have faith fight in the way of Allah, and those who are faithless fight in the way of fake gods. So fight the friends of Satan; indeed the stratagems of Satan are always flimsy. - Qarai, Ali Quli

The believers fight for the cause of God. The unbelievers fight for the cause of the Satan. So fight against the friends of Satan for the evil plans of Satan are certainly weak. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Those who believe fight in the way of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the way of the Shaitan. Fight therefore against the friends of the Shaitan; surely the strategy of the Shaitan is weak. - Shakir, Habib

The believers fight for the cause of God, while those who reject faith fight for Satan. Then fight the allies of Satan: Satan's scheming is truly weak. - Wahiduddin Khan

ایمان والے ہمیشہ اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کرتے ہیں اور جو کافر ہیں وہ ہمیشہ طاغوت کی راہ میں لڑتے ہیں لہذا تم شیطان کے ساتھیوں سے جہاد کرو بیشک شیطان کا مکر بہت کمزور ہوتا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

جن لوگوں نے ایمان کا راستہ اختیار کیا ہے، وہ اللہ کی راہ میں لڑتے ہیں اور جنہوں نے کفر کا راستہ اختیار کیا ہے، و ہ طاغوت کی راہ میں لڑتے ہیں، پس شیطان کے ساتھیوں سے لڑو اور یقین جانو کہ شیطان کی چالیں حقیقت میں نہایت کمزور ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

Do not
تَرَ
you see
إِلَى
at
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones,
قِيلَ
was said
لَهُمْ
to whom,
كُفُّوٓا۟
[Restraint
أَيْدِيَكُمْ
your hands,
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the Discipline
وَءَاتُوا۟
and produce
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
the Emancipation.],
فَلَمَّا
so then when
كُتِبَ
was ordained
عَلَيْهِمُ
upon them
ٱلْقِتَالُ
the fight,
إِذَا
when
فَرِيقٌۭ
a sect
مِّنْهُمْ
from them
يَخْشَوْنَ
became afraid of
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
كَخَشْيَةِ
as they ought to be afraid of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
أَوْ
or
أَشَدَّ
even more
خَشْيَةًۭ
afraid?
ۚ
وَقَالُوا۟
And they said,
رَبَّنَا
[Our Lord!
لِمَ
Why have
كَتَبْتَ
You ordained
عَلَيْنَا
upon us
ٱلْقِتَالَ
the fight?
لَوْلَآ
How come
أَخَّرْتَنَآ
not is delayed for us
إِلَىٰٓ
till
أَجَلٍۢ
a term
قَرِيبٍۢ
after some time?]
ۗ
قُلْ
Say,
مَتَٰعُ
[Enjoyment of
ٱلدُّنْيَا
this life is
قَلِيلٌۭ
little,
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ
while the forthcoming is
خَيْرٌۭ
better
لِّمَنِ
for whomever
ٱتَّقَىٰ
became aware,
وَلَا
and not
تُظْلَمُونَ
you will be wronged
فَتِيلًا
even as little as a twig.]

٧٧
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ قِيلَ لَهُمْ كُفُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ إِذَا فَرِيقٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ ٱلنَّاسَ كَخَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ أَشَدَّ خَشْيَةًۭ ۚ وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لِمَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْقِتَالَ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ قَرِيبٍۢ ۗ قُلْ مَتَٰعُ ٱلدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٌۭ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لِّمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا Do not you see at the ones, was said to whom, [Restraint your hands, and establish the Discipline and produce the Emancipation.], so then when was ordained upon them the fight, when a sect from them became afraid of the people as they ought to be afraid of the One or even more afraid? And they said, [Our Lord! Why have You ordained upon us the fight? How come not is delayed for us till a term after some time?] Say, [Enjoyment of this life is little, while the forthcoming is better for whomever became aware, and not you will be wronged even as little as a twig.]

Hast thou not seen those unto whom it was said: Withhold your hands, establish worship and pay the poordue, but when fighting was prescribed for them behold! a party of them fear mankind even as their fear of Allah or with greater fear, and say: Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? If only Thou wouldst give us respite yet a while! Say (unto them, O Muhammad): The comfort of this world is scant; the Hereafter will be better for him who wardeth off (evil); and ye will not be wronged the down upon a date-stone. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Have you not regarded those who were told, [Keep your hands off [from warfare], and maintain the prayer and give the zakat]? But when fighting was prescribed for them, behold, a part of them feared the people as if fearing Allah, or were even more afraid, and they said, [Our Lord! Why did You prescribe fighting for us? Why did You not respite us for a short time?!] Say, [The enjoyments of this world are trifle and the Hereafter is better for the Godwary, and you will not be wronged so much as a single date-thread. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Have you not seen those who were told to stop fighting, to say their prayers, and pay the religious tax? When they were ordered to fight, some of them feared other men as much as or more than they feared God and so they said, [Lord, why have you ordered us to fight? If only you would give us a little time.] (Muhammad), tell them, [The pleasures of the worldly life are trivial. The life hereafter is best for the pious ones. You will not be treated the slightest bit unjustly. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Have you not seen those to whom it was said: Withhold your hands, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate; but when fighting is prescribed for them, lo! a party of them fear men as they ought to have feared Allah, or (even) with a greater fear, and say: Our Lord! why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? Wherefore didst Thou not grant us a delay to a near end? Say: The provision of this world is short, and the hereafter is better for him who guards (against evil); and you shall not be wronged the husk of a date stone. - Shakir, Habib

Have you not seen those to whom it was said, [Restrain your hands, say your prayers and pay the prescribed alms?] And when they have been ordered to fight, some of them have felt afraid of human beings just as they should be afraid of God, or they are even more afraid. They say, [Our Lord, why have You ordered us to fight? If You would only postpone it for a little while longer!] Say, [The benefits of this world are negligible and the Hereafter will be better for one who fears God; and you shall not be wronged in the slightest. - Wahiduddin Khan

کیا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جن سے کہا گیا تھا کہ ہاتھ روکے رکھو اور نماز قائم کرو, زکوِٰادا کرو(تو بے چین ہوگئے) اور جب جہاد واجب کردیا گیا تو ایک گروہ لوگوں(دشمنوں) سے اس قدر ڈرتا تھا جیسے خدا سے ڈرتا ہو یا اس سے بھی کچھ زیادہ اور یہ کہتے ہیں کہ خدایا اتنی جلدی کیوں جہاد واجب کردیا کاش تھوڑی مدت تک اور ٹال دیاجاتا پیغمبرآپ کہہ دیجئے کہ دنیا کا سرمایہ بہت تھوڑا ہے اور آخرت صاحبانِ تقوٰی کے لئے بہترین جگہ ہے اور تم پر دھاگہ برابر بھی ظلم نہیں کیا جائے گا - Jawadi, Zeeshan

تم نے اُن لوگوں کو بھی دیکھا جن سے کہا گیا تھا کہ اپنے ہاتھ روکے رکھو اور نماز قائم کرو اور زکوٰۃ دو؟ اب جو انہیں لڑائی کا حکم دیا گیا تو ان میں سے ایک فریق کا حال یہ ہے کہ لوگوں سے ایسا ڈر رہے ہیں جیسا خدا سے ڈرنا چاہیے یا کچھ اس سے بھی بڑھ کر کہتے ہیں خدایا! یہ ہم پر لڑائی کا حکم کیوں لکھ دیا؟ کیوں نہ ہمیں ابھی کچھ اور مہلت دی؟ ان سے کہو، دنیا کا سرمایہ زندگی تھوڑا ہے، اور آخرت ایک خدا ترس انسان کے لیے زیادہ بہتر ہے، اور تم پر ظلم ایک شمہ برابر بھی نہ کیا جائے گا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

کیا تم نے انہیں نہ دیکھا جن سے کہا گیا اپنے ہاتھ روک لو اور نماز قائم رکھو اور زکوٰة دو پھر جب ان پر جہاد فرض کیا گیا تو ان میں بعضے لوگوں سے ایسا ڈرنے لگے جیسے اللہ سے ڈرے یا اس سے بھی زائد اور بولے اے رب ہمارے! تو نے ہم پر جہاد کیوں فرض کردیا تھوڑی مدت تک ہمیں اور جینے دیا ہوتا، تم فرما دو کہ دنیا کا برتنا تھوڑا ہے اور ڈر والوں کے لئے آخرت اچھی اور تم پر تاگے برابر ظلم نہ ہوگا - Ahmed Raza

کیا تم نے ان لوگوں کو نہیں دیکھا جن سے کہا گیا تھا کہ اپنے ہاتھ روکے رہو اور نماز پڑھو اور زکوٰۃ ادا کرو۔ پھر جب ان پر جدال و قتال فرض کر دیا گیا۔ تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ انسانوں سے اس طرح ڈرنے لگا، جیسے اللہ سے ڈرنا چاہیے یا اس سے بھی زیادہ۔ اور کہنے لگا پروردگار! تو نے کیوں (اتنا جلدی) ہم پر جہاد فرض کر دیا۔ اور تھوڑی مدت تک ہمیں مہلت کیوں نہ دی؟ (اے نبی) کہہ دیجیے کہ دنیا کا سامان بہت تھوڑا ہے اور جو متقی و پرہیزگار ہے اس کے لئے آخرت بہت بہتر ہے اور تم پر کھجور کی گھٹلی کے ریشہ برابر (ذرہ بھی) ظلم نہیں کیا جائے گا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

ٱلْمَوْتُ
the death,
وَلَوْ

you happen to be

بُرُوجٍۢ
towers
مُّشَيَّدَةٍۢ
erected high];
ۗ
وَإِن
and if
تُصِبْهُمْ
befalls at them
حَسَنَةٌۭ
goodness
يَقُولُوا۟
they say,
هَٰذِهِۦ
[This is
مِنْ
from
عِندِ
near
ٱللَّهِ
the One],
ۖ
وَإِن
and if
تُصِبْهُمْ
befalls at them
سَيِّئَةٌۭ
evil
يَقُولُوا۟
they declare,
هَٰذِهِۦ
[This is
مِنْ
from
عِندِكَ
near you].
ۚ
قُلْ
Say,
كُلٌّۭ
[All is
مِّنْ
from
عِندِ
nearing
ٱللَّهِ
the One.]
ۖ
فَمَالِ
So for what is it, that
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
these people of
ٱلْقَوْمِ
the nation,
لَا
not
يَكَادُونَ
are bright enough to
يَفْقَهُونَ
understand
حَدِيثًۭا
a narrative?
٤
٧٨
أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ يُدْرِككُّمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُرُوجٍۢ مُّشَيَّدَةٍۢ ۗ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌۭ يَقُولُوا۟ هَٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۭ يَقُولُوا۟ هَٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِكَ ۚ قُلْ كُلٌّۭ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَالِ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًۭا [Wherever you may exist, will overtake you the death, even if you happen to be in towers erected high]; and if befalls at them goodness they say, [This is from near the One], and if befalls at them evil they declare, [This is from near you]. Say, [All is from nearing the One.] So for what is it, that these people of the nation, not are bright enough to understand a narrative?

Wheresoever ye may be, death will overtake you, even though ye were in lofty towers. Yet if a happy thing befalleth them they say: This is from Allah; and if an evil thing befalleth them they say: This is of thy doing (O Muhammad). Say (unto them): All is from Allah. What is amiss with these people that they come not nigh to understand a happening? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Wherever you may be death will overtake you, even if you were in fortified towers.] If any good befalls them, they say, [This is from Allah;] and when an ill befalls them, they say, [This is from you.] Say, [All is from Allah.] What is the matter with these people that they would not understand any matter? - Qarai, Ali Quli

Wherever you are, death will find you even if you hide yourselves in firmly constructed towers. Whenever people experience good fortune, they say that it is from God but whenever they experience misfortune, they say it is because of you, (Muhammad). Tell them, [Everything is from God.] What is wrong with these people that they do not even try to understand? - Sarwar, Muhammad

Wherever you are, death will overtake you, though you are in lofty towers, and if a benefit comes to them, they say: This is from Allah; and if a misfortune befalls them, they say: This is from you. Say: All is from Allah, but what is the matter with these people that they do not make approach to understanding what is told (them)? - Shakir, Habib

تم جہاں بھی رہو گے موت تمہیں پالے گی چاہے مستحکم قلعوں میں کیوں نہ بند ہوجاؤ- ان لوگوں کا حال یہ ہے کہ اچھے حالات پیدا ہوتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ خدا کی طرف سے ہے اور مصیبت آتی ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ آپ کی طرف سے ہے تو آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ سب خدا کی طرف سے ہے پھر آخر اس قوم کو کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ یہ کوئی بات سمجھتی ہی نہیں ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

رہی موت، تو جہاں بھی تم ہو وہ بہرحال تمہیں آکر رہے گی خواہ تم کیسی ہی مضبوط عمارتوں میں ہو اگر انہیں کوئی فائدہ پہنچتا ہے تو کہتے ہیں یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے، اور اگر کوئی نقصان پہنچتا ہے تو کہتے ہیں یہ تمہاری بدولت ہے کہو، سب کچھ اللہ ہی کی طرف سے ہے آخر ان لوگوں کو کیا ہو گیا ہے کہ کوئی بات ان کی سمجھ میں نہیں آتی - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تم جہاں کہیں ہو موت تمہیں آلے گی اگرچہ مضبوط قلعوں میں ہو اور اُنہیں کوئی بھلائی پہنچے تو کہیں یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے اور انہیں کوئی برائی پہنچے تو کہیں یہ حضور کی طرف آئی تم فرمادو سب اللہ کی طرف سے ہے تو ان لوگوں کو کیا ہوا کوئی بات سمجھتے معلوم ہی نہیں ہوتے، - Ahmed Raza

تم جہاں کہیں بھی ہوگے، موت تمہیں آئے گی اگرچہ تم مضبوط قلعوں میں کیوں نہ ہو اور جب انہیں بھلائی پہنچتی ہے۔ تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے اور جب کوئی برائی اور تکلیف پہنچتی ہے تو کہتے ہیں کہ یہ آپ کی وجہ سے ہے۔ کہہ دیجیے کہ یہ سب کچھ اللہ ہی کی طرف سے ہے آخر ان لوگوں کو کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ کوئی بات سمجھتے ہی نہیں ہیں؟ ۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

What
أَصَابَكَ
befalls you
مِنْ

حَسَنَةٍۢ
goodness
فَمِنَ
thus is from
ٱللَّهِ

وَمَآ
and what
أَصَابَكَ
befalls at you
مِن
from
سَيِّئَةٍۢ
evil,
فَمِن
thus is
نَّفْسِكَ
from your own psyche;
ۚ
وَأَرْسَلْنَٰكَ
and We have sent you
لِلنَّاسِ
for the people
رَسُولًۭا
as a messenger,
ۚ
وَكَفَىٰ
and suffice
بِٱللَّهِ
by the One
شَهِيدًۭا
as a witness.

٧٩
مَّآ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍۢ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَآ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍۢ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ ۚ وَأَرْسَلْنَٰكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولًۭا ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًۭا What befalls you from goodness thus is from the One, and what befalls at you from evil, thus is from your own psyche; and We have sent you for the people as a messenger, and suffice by the One as a witness.

Whatever of good befalleth thee (O man) it is from Allah, and whatever of ill befalleth thee it is from thyself. We have sent thee (Muhammad) as a messenger unto mankind and Allah is sufficient as Witness. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Whoever
يُطِعِ
conforms to
ٱلرَّسُولَ
the Messenger,
فَقَدْ
thus surely
أَطَاعَ
conforms to
ٱللَّهَ
the One,

وَمَن
and whoever
تَوَلَّىٰ
turned their back,
فَمَآ
then not
أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ
We have sent you
عَلَيْهِمْ
upon them
حَفِيظًۭا
as a protector.

مَّن يُطِعِ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ ٱللَّهَ ۖ وَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًۭا Whoever conforms to the Messenger, thus surely conforms to the One, and whoever turned their back, then not We have sent you upon them as a protector.

Whoso obeyeth the messenger hath obeyed Allah, and whoso turneth away: We have not sent thee as a warder over them. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Whoever obeys the Apostle certainly obeys Allah; and as for those who turn their backs [on you]; We have not sent you to keep watch over them. - Qarai, Ali Quli

One who obeys the Messenger has certainly obeyed God. You have not been sent to watch over those who turn away from you. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Whoever obeys the Apostle, he indeed obeys Allah, and whoever turns back, so We have not sent you as a keeper over them. - Shakir, Habib

And they say: (It is) obedience; but when they have gone forth from thee a party of them spend the night in planning other than what thou sayest. Allah recordeth what they plan by night. So oppose them and put thy trust in Allah. Allah is sufficient as Trustee. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They profess obedience [to you], but when they go out from your presence, a group of them conspire overnight [to do] something other than what you say. But Allah records what they conspire overnight. So disregard them and put your trust in Allah, for Allah suffices as trustee. - Qarai, Ali Quli

They proclaim obedience to you but as soon as they leave at night, a group of them make secret plans to do the contrary of what you have told them to do. God keeps the record of their nocturnal plans. Therefore, leave them alone and put your trust in God; He is Sufficient for you as your Guardian. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And they say: Obedience. But when they go out from your presence, a party of them decide by night upon doing otherwise than what you say; and Allah writes down what they decide by night, therefore turn aside from them and trust in Allah, and Allah is sufficient as a protector. - Shakir, Habib

وہ منہ پر کہتے ہیں کہ ہم مطیع فرمان ہیں مگر جب تمہارے پاس سے نکلتے ہیں تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ راتوں کو جمع ہو کر تمہاری باتوں کے خلاف مشورے کرتا ہے اللہ ان کی یہ ساری سرگوشیاں لکھ رہا ہے تم ان کی پروا نہ کرو اور اللہ پر بھروسہ رکھو، وہی بھروسہ کے لیے کافی ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور وہ زبان سے اطاعت و فرمانبرداری کی لفظ کہتے ہیں اور جب آپ کے پاس سے باہر نکلتے ہیں۔ تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ آپ کے فرمان (یا اپنے قول و قرار کے) برعکس رات بھر تدبیریں کرتا ہے جو کچھ وہ رات کے وقت کرتے ہیں۔ اللہ وہ سب کچھ (ان کے صحیفۂ اعمال میں) لکھ رہا ہے۔ آپ ان کی طرف توجہ نہ کریں۔ اور اللہ پر توکل و بھروسہ کریں، کارسازی کے لیے اللہ کافی ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

Then why do not
يَتَدَبَّرُونَ
they consider
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
the Proclamatory Reading?
ۚ
وَلَوْ
And if
كَانَ
had been
مِنْ
from
عِندِ
an origin
غَيْرِ
other than
ٱللَّهِ
the One's
لَوَجَدُوا۟
surely would have found
فِيهِ
in it
ٱخْتِلَٰفًۭا
contradictions
كَثِيرًۭا
in abundance.

أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۚ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا۟ فِيهِ ٱخْتِلَٰفًۭا كَثِيرًۭا Then why do not they consider the Proclamatory Reading? And if had been from an origin other than the One's surely would have found in it contradictions in abundance.

Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity. - Pickthall, Marmaduke
