The Segregating Myths

وَإِن
And if
كُنتُمْ
you happen to be
عَلَىٰ
on
سَفَرٍۢ
a journey
وَلَمْ
and not
تَجِدُوا۟
you find
كَاتِبًۭا
a writer
فَرِهَٰنٌۭ
then pledge with an item
مَّقْبُوضَةٌۭ
that is held on to;
ۖ
فَإِنْ
thus if
أَمِنَ
trust
بَعْضُكُم
some of you
بَعْضًۭا
some other ones,
فَلْيُؤَدِّ
then let fulfil,
ٱلَّذِى
the one
ٱؤْتُمِنَ
whom you trust,
أَمَٰنَتَهُۥ
his trustworthiness,
وَلْيَتَّقِ
and let him be only afraid of
ٱللَّهَ
the One,
رَبَّهُۥ
his Rabb;
ۗ
وَلَا
and do not
تَكْتُمُوا۟
conceal
ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ
the testimony;
ۚ
وَمَن
and whoever
يَكْتُمْهَا
hides it
فَإِنَّهُۥٓ
then it is
ءَاثِمٌۭ
an evil of
قَلْبُهُۥ
his heart;
ۗ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One
بِمَا
with what
تَعْمَلُونَ
you are doing is
عَلِيمٌۭ
well informed.

٢٨٣
وَإِن كُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍۢ وَلَمْ تَجِدُوا۟ كَاتِبًۭا فَرِهَٰنٌۭ مَّقْبُوضَةٌۭ ۖ فَإِنْ أَمِنَ بَعْضُكُم بَعْضًۭا فَلْيُؤَدِّ ٱلَّذِى ٱؤْتُمِنَ أَمَٰنَتَهُۥ وَلْيَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُۥ ۗ وَلَا تَكْتُمُوا۟ ٱلشَّهَٰدَةَ ۚ وَمَن يَكْتُمْهَا فَإِنَّهُۥٓ ءَاثِمٌۭ قَلْبُهُۥ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌۭ And if you happen to be on a journey and not you find a writer then pledge with an item that is held on to; thus if trust some of you some other ones, then let fulfil, the one whom you trust, his trustworthiness, and let him be only afraid of the One, his Rabb; and do not conceal the testimony; and whoever hides it then it is an evil of his heart; and the One with what you are doing is well informed.

If ye be on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a pledge in hand (shall suffice). And if one of you entrusteth to another let him who is trusted deliver up that which is entrusted to him (according to the pact between them) and let him observe his duty to Allah his Lord. Hide not testimony. He who hideth it, verily his heart is sinful. Allah is Aware of what ye do. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

If you are on a journey and cannot find a writer, then a retained pledge [shall suffice]. And if one of you entrusts [an asset] to another, let him who is trusted deliver his trust, and let him be wary of Allah, his Lord. And do not conceal your testimony; anyone who conceals it, his heart will indeed be sinful, and Allah knows well what you do. - Qarai, Ali Quli

If you are on a journey where you cannot find a scribe, finalize your contract in the form of a deposit in which the goods are already given to the parties. If you trust each other in such a contract, let him pay back what he has entrusted you with and have fear of God, his Lord. Do not refuse to testify to what you bore witness. Whoever does so has committed a sin. God knows what you do. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And if you are upon a journey and you do not find a scribe, then (there may be) a security taken into possession; but if one of you trusts another, then he who is trusted should deliver his trust, and let him be careful (of his duty to) Allah, his Lord; and do not conceal testimony, and whoever conceals it, his heart is surely sinful; and Allah knows what you do. - Shakir, Habib

If you are on a journey and do not find any literate person, something should be handed over as security. If one of you entrusts another with something, let the trustee restore the pledge to its owner; and let him fear God, his Lord. Do not conceal testimony. If someone does conceal it, in his heart he commits a crime. God knows what you do. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر تم سفر میں ہو اور کوئی کاتب نہیں مل رہا ہے تو کوئی رہن رکھ دو اور ایک کو دوسرے پر اعتبار ہو تو جس پراعتبار ہے اس کو چاہئے کہ امانت کو واپس کردے اورخدا سے ڈرتا رہے---- اور خبردار گواہی کو حُھپانا نہیں کہ جو ایسا کرے گا اس کا دل گنہگار ہوگا اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے خوب باخبر ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اگر تم سفر کی حالت میں ہو اور دستاویز لکھنے کے لیے کوئی کاتب نہ ملے، تو رہن بالقبض پر معاملہ کرو اگر تم میں سے کوئی شخص دوسرے پر بھروسہ کر کے اس کے ساتھ کوئی معاملہ کرے، تو جس پر بھروسہ کیا گیا ہے، اسے چاہیے کہ امانت ادا کرے اور اللہ، اپنے رب سے ڈرے اور شہادت ہرگز نہ چھپاؤ جو شہادت چھپاتا ہے، اس کا دل گناہ میں آلودہ ہے اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے بے خبر نہیں ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اگر تم سفر میں ہو اور لکھنے والا نہ پاؤ تو گِرو (رہن) ہو قبضہ میں دیا ہوا اور اگر تم ایک کو دوسرے پر اطمینان ہو تو وہ جسے اس نے امین سمجھا تھا اپنی امانت ادا کردے اور اللہ سے ڈرے جو اس کا رب ہے اور گواہی نہ چھپاؤ اور جو گواہی چھپائے گا تو اندر سے اسکا دل گنہگار ہے اور اللہ تمہارے کاموں کو جانتا ہے، - Ahmed Raza

اور اگر تم سفر میں ہو اور تمہیں کاتب نہ ملے تو رہن باقبضہ رکھ لو۔ اور اگر تم میں سے ایک کو دوسرے پر اعتبار ہو۔ تو جس پر اعتبار کیا گیا ہے۔ اسے چاہیے کہ اپنی امانت واپس کر دے اور اپنے پروردگار (کی مخالفت) سے ڈرے۔ اور گواہی کو نہ چھپاؤ۔ اور جو اسے چھپائے گا اس کا دل گنہگار ہوگا۔ اور تم جو کچھ کرتے ہو اللہ اس کو خوب جانتا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
