أَيَوَدُّ
Does desire
أَحَدُكُمْ
anyone of you
أَن
that
تَكُونَ
there be
لَهُۥ
for him
جَنَّةٌۭ
a garden
مِّن
of
نَّخِيلٍۢ
palms
وَأَعْنَابٍۢ
and grapes,
تَجْرِى
flowing
مِن
from
تَحْتِهَا
under it
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ
streams
لَهُۥ
for him,
فِيهَا
in it
مِن
of
كُلِّ
all
ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ
fruits,
وَأَصَابَهُ
and befalls him
ٱلْكِبَرُ
the old age,
وَلَهُۥ
and for him are
ذُرِّيَّةٌۭ
offsprings
ضُعَفَآءُ
who are weak,
فَأَصَابَهَآ
then befalls upon the garden
إِعْصَارٌۭ
a time
فِيهِ
in which is
نَارٌۭ
fire,
فَٱحْتَرَقَتْ
thus it is burned up?
ۗ
كَذَٰلِكَ
That is how
يُبَيِّنُ
makes clear
ٱللَّهُ
the One
لَكُمُ
for you
ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ
the signs
لَعَلَّكُمْ
that perhaps you
تَتَفَكَّرُونَ
may think.

٢٦٦
أَيَوَدُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن تَكُونَ لَهُۥ جَنَّةٌۭ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَابٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ لَهُۥ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَأَصَابَهُ ٱلْكِبَرُ وَلَهُۥ ذُرِّيَّةٌۭ ضُعَفَآءُ فَأَصَابَهَآ إِعْصَارٌۭ فِيهِ نَارٌۭ فَٱحْتَرَقَتْ ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُونَ Does desire anyone of you that there be for him a garden of palms and grapes, flowing from under it streams for him, in it of all fruits, and befalls him the old age, and for him are offsprings who are weak, then befalls upon the garden a time in which is fire, thus it is burned up? That is how makes clear the One for you the signs that perhaps you may think.

Would any of you like to have a garden of palm-trees and vines, with rivers flowing underneath it, with all kinds of fruit for him therein; and old age hath stricken him and he hath feeble offspring; and a fiery whirlwind striketh it and it is (all) consumed by fire. Thus Allah maketh plain His revelations unto you, in order that ye may give thought. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Would any of you like to have a garden of palm trees and vines, with streams running in it, with all kinds of fruit for him therein, and old age were to strike him while he has weakly offspring; whereupon a fiery hurricane were to hit it, whereat it lies burnt? Thus does Allah clarify His signs for you so that you may reflect. - Qarai, Ali Quli

(What do you think of the case) of one of you who wishes to have a garden of palm-trees and grapes with water flowing therein and producing all kinds of fruits, especially if he is well advanced in age and has weak children who need support, and then a hurricane with fire in it strikes the garden and burns it to the ground? Does one of you like that he should have a garden of palms and vines with streams flowing beneath it; he has in it all kinds of fruits; and old age has overtaken him and he has weak offspring, when, (lo!) a whirlwind with fire in it smites it so it becomes blasted; thus Allah makes the communications clear to you, that you may reflect. - Shakir, Habib

کیا تم میں سے کوئی یہ پسند کرتا ہے کہ اس کے پاس کھجور اور انگور کے باغ ہوں. ان کے نیچے نہریں جاری ہوں ان میں ہر طرح کے پھل ہوں--- اور آدمی بوڑھاہوجائے . اس کے کمزور بچے ہوں اور پھراچانک تیز گرم ہوا جس میں آگ بھری ہو چل جائے اور سب جل کر خاک ہوجائے . خداا سی طرح اپنی آیات کو واضح کرکے بیان کرتا ہے کہ شاید تم فکر کرسکو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کیا تم میں سے کوئی یہ پسند کرتا ہے کہ اس کے پاس ایک ہرا بھرا باغ ہو، نہروں سے سیراب، کھجوروں اور انگوروں اور ہرقسم کے پھلوں سے لدا ہوا، اور وہ عین اُس وقت ایک تیز بگولے کی زد میں آ کر جھلس جائے، جبکہ وہ خود بوڑھا ہو اور اس کے کم سن بچے ابھی کسی لائق نہ ہوں؟ اس طرح اللہ اپنی باتیں تمہارے سامنے بیان کرتا ہے، شاید کہ تم غور و فکر کرو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

کیا تم میں کوئی اسے پسند رکھے گا کہ اس کے پاس ایک باغ ہو کھجوروں اور انگوروں کا جس کے نیچے ندیاں بہتیں اس کے لئے اس میں ہر قسم کے پھلوں سے ہے اور اسے بڑھاپا آیا اور اس کے ناتوان بچے ہیں تو آیا اس پر ایک بگولا جس میں آگ تھی تو جل گیا ایسا ہی بیان کرتا ہے اللہ تم سے اپنی آیتیں کہ کہیں تم دھیان لگاؤ - Ahmed Raza

تم میں سے کوئی بھی یہ بات پسند کرے گا کہ اس کے پاس کھجوروں، انگوروں کا ہرا بھرا گھنا باغ ہو جس کے نیچے نہریں جاری ہوں اور اس کے لئے اس میں ہر قسم کے پھل اور میوے موجود ہوں اور اسے بڑھاپا گھیر لے۔ جبکہ اس کی (چھوٹی چھوٹی) کمزور و ناتواں اولاد ہو اور اچانک اس (باغ) کو ایک ایسا بگولہ اپنی لپیٹ میں لے لے جس میں آگ ہو جس سے وہ باغ جل کر رہ جائے۔ اس طرح خدا تمہارے لئے اپنے احکام کھول کر بیان کرتا ہے تاکہ تم غور و فکر کرو۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
