(Some) will say: They were three, their dog the fourth, and (some) say: Five, their dog the sixth, guessing at random; and (some) say: Seven, and their dog the eighth. Say (O Muhammad): My Lord is Best Aware of their number. None knoweth them save a few. So contend not concerning them except with an outward contending, and ask not any of them to pronounce concerning them. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

They will say, [[They are] three; their dog is the fourth of them,] and say, [[They are] five, their dog is the sixth of them,] taking a shot at the invisible. They will say, [[They are] seven, their dog is the eighth of them.] Say, [My Lord knows best their number, and none knows them except a few.] So do not dispute concerning them, except for a seeming dispute, and do not question about them any of them. - Qarai, Ali Quli

(With regard to the number of the youths) some say, [There were three and the dog was the fourth one,] Others say, [There were five and the dog was the sixth one.] In reality, they are just feeling around in the dark. Still some of them say, [There were seven and the dog was the eighth one.] (Muhammad), say, [My Lord has the best knowledge of their number. You know very little about it.] Do not insist on arguing with them, but merely tell them the story as it has been revealed to you and do not ask anyone about them. - Sarwar, Muhammad

عنقریب یہ لوگ کہیں گے کہ وہ تین تھے اور چوتھا ان کا کتاّ تھا اور بعض کہیں گے کہ پانچ تھے اور چھٹا ان کا کتا تھا اور یہ سب صرف غیبی اندازے ہوں گے اور بعض تو یہ بھی کہیں گے کہ وہ سات تھے اور آٹھواں ان کا کتا تھا-آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ خدا ان کی تعداد کو بہتر جانتا ہے اورچند افراد کے علاوہ کوئی نہیں جانتا ہے لہذا آپ ان سے ظاہری گفتگو کے علاوہ واقعا کوئی بحث نہ کریں اور ان کے بارے میں کسی سے دریافت بھی نہ کریں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کچھ لوگ کہیں گے کہ وہ تین تھے اور چوتھا ان کا کتا تھا اور کچھ دوسرے کہہ دیں گے کہ پانچ تھے اور چھٹا اُن کا کتا تھا یہ سب بے تکی ہانکتے ہیں کچھ اور لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ سات تھے اور آٹھواں اُن کا کتا تھا کہو، میرا رب ہی بہتر جانتا ہے کہ وہ کتنے تھے کم ہی لوگ ان کی صحیح تعداد جانتے ہیں پس تم سرسری بات سے بڑھ کر ان کی تعداد کے معاملے میں لوگوں سے بحث نہ کرو، اور نہ ان کے متعلق کسی سے کچھ پوچھو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اب کہیں گے کہ وہ تین ہیں چوتھا ان کا کتا اور کچھ کہیں گے پانچ ہیں، چھٹا ان کا کتا بے دیکھے الاؤتکا (تیر تکا) بات اور کچھ کہیں گے سات ہیں اور آٹھواں ان کا کتا تم فرماؤ میرا رب ان کی گنتی خوب جانتا ہے انہیں نہیں جانتے مگر تھوڑے تو ان کے بارے میں بحث نہ کرو مگر اتنی ہی بحث جو ظاہر ہوچکی - Ahmed Raza
