The Thunder [ 13:4 ] الرعد

وَفِى

ٱلْأَرْضِ

قِطَعٌۭ

مُّتَجَٰوِرَٰتٌۭ

وَجَنَّٰتٌۭ

[untranslated]

مِّنْ

[untranslated]

أَعْنَٰبٍۢ

وَزَرْعٌۭ

وَنَخِيلٌۭ

[untranslated]

صِنْوَانٌۭ

[untranslated]

وَغَيْرُ

[untranslated]

صِنْوَانٍۢ

يُسْقَىٰ

بِمَآءٍۢ

وَٰحِدٍۢ

وَنُفَضِّلُ

بَعْضَهَا

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

يَعْقِلُونَ

١٣

وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قِطَعٌۭ مُّتَجَٰوِرَٰتٌۭ وَجَنَّٰتٌۭ مِّنْ أَعْنَٰبٍۢ وَزَرْعٌۭ وَنَخِيلٌۭ صِنْوَانٌۭ وَغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍۢ يُسْقَىٰ بِمَآءٍۢ وَٰحِدٍۢ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ فِى ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَعْقِلُونَ

⦿

And in the Earth are neighbouring tracts, vineyards and ploughed lands, and date-palms, like and unlike, which are watered with one water. And we have made some of them to excel others in fruit. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who have sense.

In the earth are neighbouring terrains [of diverse kinds] and vineyards, farms, and date palms growing from the same root and from diverse roots, [all] irrigated by the same water, and We give some of them an advantage over others in flavour. There are indeed signs in that for people who exercise their reason.

In the earth there are adjacent pieces of land, vineyards, farms, date-palms of single and many roots which are all watered by the same water. We have made some yield a better food than others. All this is evidence (of the existence of God) for the people who understand.

And in the earth there are tracts side by side and gardens of grapes and corn and palm trees having one root and (others) having distinct roots-- they are watered with one water, and We make some of them excel others in fruit; most surely there are signs in this for a people who understand.

On the earth are diverse tracts, adjoining one another: vineyards and cornfields and groves of palm, the single and the clustered. Their fruits are nourished by the same water; yet We make the taste of some excel that of others. In this also are signs for people who understand.

اور زمین کے متعدد ٹکڑے آپس میں ایک دوسرے سے ملے ہوئے ہیں اور انگور کے باغات ہیں اور زرا عت ہے اور کھجوریں ہیں جن میں بعض دو شاخ کی ہیں اور بعض ایک شاخ کی ہیں اور سب ایک ہی پانی سے سینچے جاتے ہیں اور ہم بعض کو بعض پر کھانے میں ترجیح دیتے ہیں اور اس میں بھی صاحبانِ عقل کے لئے بڑی نشانیاں پائی جاتی ہیں

اور دیکھو، زمین میں الگ الگ خطے پائے جاتے ہیں جو ایک دوسرے سے متصل واقع ہیں انگور کے باغ ہیں، کھیتیاں ہیں، کھجور کے درخت ہیں جن میں سے کچھ اکہرے ہیں اور کچھ دوہرے سب کو ایک ہی پانی سیراب کرتا ہے مگر مزے میں ہم کسی کو بہتر بنا دیتے ہیں اور کسی کو کمتر ان سب چیزوں میں بہت سی نشانیاں ہیں اُن لوگوں کے لیے جو عقل سے کام لیتے ہیں

اور زمین کے مختلف قطعے ہیں اور ہیں پاس پاس اور باغ ہیں انگوروں کے اور کھیتی اور کھجور کے پیڑ ایک تھالے (تھال) سے اُگے اور الگ الگ سب کو ایک ہی پانی دیا جا تا ہے اور پھلوں میں ہم ایک کو دوسرے سے بہتر کرتے ہیں، بیشک اس میں نشانیاں ہیں عقل مندوں کے لیے

اور خود زمین میں مختلف ٹکڑے آس پاس واقع ہیں (پھر ان میں) انگوروں کے باغ ہیں (غلہ کی) کھیتیاں ہیں اور کھجور کے درخت ہیں کچھ ایسے جو ایک ہی جڑ سے کئی درخت نکلے ہیں اور کچھ وہ جو ایسے نہیں ہیں سب ایک ہی پانی سے سیراب کئے جاتے ہیں مگر ہم (ذائقہ میں) بعض کو بعض پر برتری دیتے ہیں۔ یقیناً ان امور میں ان لوگوں کیلئے بڑی نشانیاں ہیں جو عقل سے کام لیتے ہیں۔

تُرَٰبًا

أَءِنَّا

لَفِى

خَلْقٍۢ

جَدِيدٍ

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ

ٱلَّذِينَ

كَفَرُوا۟

[untranslated]

بِرَبِّهِمْ

وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ

ٱلْأَغْلَٰلُ

[untranslated]

فِىٓ

[untranslated]

أَعْنَاقِهِمْ

وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ

أَصْحَٰبُ

ٱلنَّارِ

[untranslated]

هُمْ

فِيهَا

خَٰلِدُونَ

١٣

وَإِن تَعْجَبْ فَعَجَبٌۭ قَوْلُهُمْ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَٰبًا أَءِنَّا لَفِى خَلْقٍۢ جَدِيدٍ ۗ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلْأَغْلَٰلُ فِىٓ أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

⦿

And if thou wonderest, then wondrous is their saying: When we are dust, are we then forsooth (to be raised) in a new creation? Such are they who disbelieve in their Lord; such have carcans on their necks; such are rightful owners of the Fire, they will abide therein.

⦿

If you are to wonder [at anything], then wonderful is their remark, [When we have become dust, shall we be [ushered] into a new creation?] They are the ones who defy their Lord; they shall have iron collars around their necks, they shall be the inhabitants of the Fire, and they shall remain in it [forever].

⦿

If there is anything to make you wonder, it would be the words of those who say, [When we become dust, shall we be brought back to life again?] They are disbelievers in their Lord and will wear heavy fetters around their necks. They are the dwellers of the hell fire wherein they will live forever.

And if you would wonder, then wondrous is their saying: What! when we are dust, shall we then certainly be in a new creation? These are they who disbelieve in their Lord, and these have chains on their necks, and they are the inmates of the fire; in it they shall abide.

If anything can astonish you, you should surely be astonished at their asking, [What? When we become dust, shall we be created anew?] These are the ones who deny their Lord: around their necks there shall be fetters. They are the inheritors of the Fire, and shall abide therein forever.

اور اگر تمہیں کسی بات پر تعّجب ہے تو تّعجب کی بات ان لوگوں کا یہ قول ہے کہ کیا ہم خاک ہوجانے کے بعد بھی نئے سرے سے دوبارہ پیدا کئے جائیں گے .یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے اپنے پروردگار کا انکار کیا ہے اور ان ہی کی گردنوں میں طوق ڈالے جائیں گے اور یہی اہل هجہّنم ہیں اور اسی میں ہمیشہ رہنے والے ہیں

⦿

اب اگر تمہیں تعجب کرنا ہے تو تعجب کے قابل لوگوں کا یہ قول ہے کہ ——جب ہم مر کر مٹی ہو جائیں گے تو کیا ہم نئے سرے سے پیدا کیے جائیں گے؟—— یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے اپنے رب سے کفر کیا ہے یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جن کی گردنوں میں طوق پڑے ہوئے ہیں یہ جہنمی ہیں اور جہنم میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے

⦿

اور اگر تم تعجب کرو تو اچنبھا تو ان کے اس کہنے کا ہے کہ کیا ہم مٹی ہو کر پھر نئے بنیں گے وہ ہیں جو اپنے رب سے منکر ہوئے اور وہ ہیں جن کی گردنوں میں طوق ہوں گے اور وہ دوزخ والے ہیں انھیں اسی میں رہنا،

(اے مخاطب) اگر تمہیں تعجب کرنا ہے تو تعجب کے قابل ان (کفار) کا یہ قول ہے کہ جب ہم (مر کر) خاک ہو جائیں گے تو کیا ہم از سر نو پیدا ہوں گے؟ یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے اپنے پروردگار کا انکار کیا اور یہ ہیں جن کی گردنوں میں طوق پڑے ہوں گے اور یہی جہنمی ہیں جو ہمیشہ ہمیشہ اس میں رہیں گے۔

لَشَدِيدُ

ٱلْعِقَابِ

١٣

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِمُ ٱلْمَثُلَٰتُ ۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍۢ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

⦿

And they bid thee hasten on the evil rather than the good, when exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But lo! thy Lord is rich in pardon for mankind despite their wrong, and lo! thy Lord is strong in punishment.

⦿

They would press you for evil sooner than for good, though there have already gone by before them exemplary punishments. Indeed your Lord is forgiving to mankind despite their wrongdoing, and indeed your Lord is severe in retribution.

⦿

They ask you to bring upon them punishment before they ask you for mercy. Such punishments were already brought upon the people who lived before them. Your Lord, certainly, has forgiveness for the injustice of the people. He is also stern in His retribution.

⦿

And they ask you to hasten on the evil before the good, and indeed there have been exemplary punishments before them; and most surely your Lord is the Lord of forgiveness to people, notwithstanding their injustice; and most surely your Lord is severe in requiting (evil).

They demand that you hasten on the evil rather than the good, although there have been many examples of punishment before them -- your Lord is full of forgiveness for mankind, despite their wrongdoings, but He is truly severe in punishment.

اور اے رسول یہ لوگ آپ سے بھلائی سے پہلے ہی برائی (عذاب)چاہتے ہیں جب کہ ان کے پہلے بہت سی عذاب کی نظریں گزر چکی ہیں اور آپ کا پروردگار لوگوں کے لئے ان کے ظلم پر بخشنے والا بھی ہے اور بہت سخت عذاب کرنے والا بھی ہے

یہ لوگ بھلائی سے پہلے برائی کے لیے جلدی مچا رہے ہیں حالانکہ ان سے پہلے (جو لوگ اس روش پر چلے ہیں ان پر خدا کے عذاب کی) عبرت ناک مثالیں گزر چکی ہیں حقیقت یہ ہے کہ تیرا رب لوگوں کی زیادتیوں کے باوجود ان کے ساتھ چشم پوشی سے کام لیتا ہے اور یہ بھی حقیقت ہے کہ تیرا رب سخت سزا دینے والا ہے

اور تم سے عذاب کی جلدی کرتے ہیں رحمت سے پہلے اور ان اگلوں کی سزائیں ہوچکیں اور بیشک تمہارا رب تو لوگوں کے ظلم پر بھی انہیں ایک طرح کی معافی دیتا ہے اور بیشک تمہارے رب کا عذاب سخت ہے

اور (اے رسول(ص)) یہ لوگ آپ سے نیکی (مغفرت) سے پہلے برائی (عذاب) کے لئے جلدی کرتے ہیں حالانکہ ان سے پہلے (ایسے لوگوں پر) خدائی سزاؤں کے نمونے گزر چکے ہیں اور آپ کا پروردگار لوگوں کو ان کے ظلم و زیادتی کے باوجود بڑا بخشنے والا ہے اور یقیناً آپ کا پروردگار سخت سزا دینے والا بھی ہے۔

وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرٌۭ ۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ

⦿

Those who disbelieve say: If only some portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Thou art a warner only, and for every folk a guide.

⦿

The faithless say, [Why has not some sign been sent down to him from his Lord?] You are only a warner, and there is a guide for every people.

⦿

The unbelievers say, [Why has God not sent him, (Muhammad), some miracles.] (Muhammad), you are only a warner. For every nation there is a guide.

⦿

And those who disbelieve say: Why has not a sign been sent down upon him from his Lord? You are only a warner and (there is) a guide for every people.

⦿

Those who deny the truth ask, [Why has no sign been sent down to him by His Lord?] But you are only a warner; every people has its guide.

اور یہ کافر کہتے ہیں کہ ان کے اوپر کوئی نشانی (ہماری مطلوبہ)کیوں نہیں نازل ہوتی تو آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ میں صرف ڈرانے والا ہوں اور ہر قوم کے لئے ایک ہادی اور رہبر ہے

یہ لوگ جنہوں نے تمہاری با ت ماننے سے انکار کر دیا ہے، کہتے ہیں کہ ——اِس شخص پر اس کے رب کی طرف سے کوئی نشانی کیوں نہ اتری؟ تم تو محض خبردار کر دینے والے ہو، اور ہر قوم کے لیے ایک رہنما ہے

اور کا فر کہتے ہیں ان پر ان کی طرف سے کوئی نشانی کیو ں نہیں اتری تم تو ڈر سنانے والے ہو اور ہر قوم کے ہادی

اور کافر لوگ کہتے ہیں ان (پیغمبر اسلام(ص)) پر ان کے پروردگار کی طرف سے کوئی نشانی (ہماری مرضی کے مطابق) کیوں نہیں اتاری جاتی؟ حالانکہ تم تو بس (اللہ کے عذاب سے) ڈرانے والے ہو اور ہر قوم کے لئے ایک راہنما ہوتا ہے۔

عِندَهُۥ

بِمِقْدَارٍ

ٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِيضُ ٱلْأَرْحَامُ وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ عِندَهُۥ بِمِقْدَارٍ

⦿

Allah knoweth that which every female beareth and that which the wombs absorb and that which they grow. And everything with Him is measured.

Allah knows what every female carries [in her womb], and what the wombs reduce and what they increase, and everything is by [precise] measure with Him,

God knows well what every female conceives. He knows what the wombs spoil and dispose of. In His plans everything has been designed proportionately.

Allah knows what every female bears, and that of which the wombs fall short of completion and that in which they increase; and there is a measure with Him of everything.

God knows what every female bears. He knows of every change within the womb. For everything He has a proper measure;

اللہ جانتا ہے جو کچھ کسی مادہ کے پیٹ میں ہے اور پیٹ جو کچھ گھٹتے بڑھتے ہیں اور ہر چیز اس کے پاس ایک اندازے سے ہے

اللہ ہی جانتا ہے کہ ہر عورت (اپنے پیٹ میں) کیا اٹھائے پھرتی ہے؟ اور اس کو بھی (جانتا ہے) جو کچھ رحموں میں کمی یا بیشی ہوتی رہتی ہے اور اس کے نزدیک ہر چیز کی ایک مقدار مقرر ہے۔

He is the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Great, the High Exalted.

Alike of you is he who hideth the saying and he who noiseth it abroad, he who lurketh in the night and he who goeth freely in the daytime.

لَهُۥ مُعَقِّبَٰتٌۭ مِّنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ يَحْفَظُونَهُۥ مِنْ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَإِذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍۢ سُوٓءًۭا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ ۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَالٍ

For him are angels ranged before him and behind him, who guard him by Allah's command. Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts; and if Allah willeth misfortune for a folk there is none that can repel it, nor have they a defender beside Him.

He has guardian angels, to his front and his rear, who guard him by Allah]s command. Indeed Allah does not change a people]s lot, unless they change what is in their souls. And when Allah wishes to visit ill on a people, there is nothing that can avert it, and they have no protector besides Him.

ہر شخص کے آگے اور پیچھے اس کے مقرر کیے ہوئے نگراں لگے ہوئے ہیں جو اللہ کے حکم سے اس کی دیکھ بھال کر رہے ہیں حقیقت یہ ہے کہ اللہ کسی قوم کے حال کو نہیں بدلتا جب تک وہ خود اپنے اوصاف کو نہیں بدل دیتی اور جب اللہ کسی قوم کی شامت لانے کا فیصلہ کر لے تو پھر وہ کسی کے ٹالے نہیں ٹل سکتی، نہ اللہ کے مقابلے میں ایسی قوم کا کوئی حامی و مدد گار ہو سکتا ہے

The thunder hymneth His praise and (so do) the angels for awe of Him. He launcheth the thunderbolts and smiteth with them whom He will while they dispute (in doubt) concerning Allah, and He is mighty in wrath.

The Thunder celebrates His praise, and the angels [too], in awe of Him, and He releases the thunderbolts and strikes with them whomever He wishes. Yet they dispute concerning Allah, though He is great in might.

Both the thunder and the angels glorify Him and out of His fear always praise Him. He sends down thunder-bolts to strike whomever He wants, while they are busy arguing about the existence of God. His punishment is stern.

بادلوں کی گرج اس کی حمد کے ساتھ اس کی پاکی بیان کرتی ہے اور فرشتے اس کی ہیبت سے لرزتے ہوئے اُس کی تسبیح کرتے ہیں وہ کڑکتی ہوئی بجلیوں کو بھیجتا ہے اور (بسا اوقات) اُنہیں جس پر چاہتا ہے عین اس حالت میں گرا دیتا ہے جبکہ لوگ اللہ کے بارے میں جھگڑ رہے ہوتے ہیں فی الواقع اس کی چال بڑی زبردست ہے

لَهُۥ دَعْوَةُ ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَىْءٍ إِلَّا كَبَٰسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى ٱلْمَآءِ لِيَبْلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَٰلِغِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا دُعَآءُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ

Unto Him is the real prayer. Those unto whom they pray beside Allah respond to them not at all, save as (is the response to) one who stretcheth forth his hands toward water (asking) that it may come unto his mouth, and it will never reach it. The prayer of disbelievers goeth (far) astray.

[Only] to Him belongs the true invocation; and those whom they invoke besides Him do not answer them in any wise—like someone who stretches his hands towards water [desiring] that it should reach his mouth, but it does not reach it—and the invocations of the faithless only go awry.

Prayer to Him is the true prayer. Those to whom they pray instead of God will answer none of their prayers. It is as though one stretches his hands out to the water that can never reach his mouth. The prayers of the unbelievers will get nowhere.

To Him is due the true prayer; and those whom they pray to besides Allah give them no answer, but (they are) like one who stretches forth his two hands towards water that it may reach his mouth, but it will not reach it; and the prayer of the unbelievers is only in error.

The only true appeal is to God alone; those they appeal to instead of Him will never respond to them in any way. They are like a man who stretches forth his hands toward the water, so that it may reach his mouth, but it never does. The calls of those who deny the truth are all in vain.

برحق پکارنا صرف خدا ہی کا پکارنا ہے اور جو لوگ اس کے علاوہ دوسروں کو پکارتے ہیں وہ ان کی کوئی بات قبول نہیں کرسکتے سوائے اس شخص کے مانند جو پانی کی طرف ہتھیلی پھیلائے ہو کہ منہ تک پہنچ جائے اور وہ پہنچنے والا نہیں ہے اور کافروں کی دعا ہمیشہ گمراہی میں رہتی ہے

اسی کو پکارنا برحق ہے رہیں وہ دوسری ہستیاں جنہیں اس کو چھوڑ کر یہ لوگ پکارتے ہیں، وہ اُن کی دعاؤں کا کوئی جواب نہیں دے سکتیں اُنہیں پکارنا تو ایسا ہے جیسے کوئی شخص پانی کی طرف ہاتھ پھیلا کر اُس سے درخواست کرے کہ تو میرے منہ تک پہنچ جا، حالانکہ پانی اُس تک پہنچنے والا نہیں بس اِسی طرح کافروں کی دعائیں بھی کچھ نہیں ہیں مگر ایک تیر بے ہدف!

اسی کا پکارنا سچا ہے اور اُس کے سوا جن کو پکارتے ہیں وہ ان کی کچھ بھی نہیں سنتے مگر اس کی طرح جو پانی کے سامنے اپنی ہتھیلیاں پھیلائے بیٹھا ہے کہ اس کے منہ میں پہنچ جائے اور وہ ہرگز نہ پہنچے گا، اور کافروں کی ہر دعا بھٹکتی پھرتی ہے،

(تکلیف کے وقت) اسی کو پکارنا برحق ہے اور اسے چھوڑ کر جنہیں یہ لوگ پکارتے ہیں وہ انہیں کچھ بھی جواب نہیں دے سکتے ان کی مثال ایسی ہے جیسے کوئی (پیاسا) اپنے دونوں ہاتھ پانی کی طرف پھیلائے کہ وہ (پانی) اس کے منہ تک پہنچ جائے حالانکہ وہ اس تک پہنچنے والا نہیں ہے اور کافروں کی دعا و پکار گمراہی میں بھٹکتی پھرتی ہے۔

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.

Due Credits:

This website was possible by help of many people and forums who helped me to learn Arabic, Philosophy, Law, Psychology, and PHP and other Web scripts. To be honest, I do not even know the names of many but I did learn from them. Some of these people were already dead by the time I read their input.

The Arabic text of the Quran was obtained from Tanzil. The additional translations were also obtained from Tanzil from this link.
