ٱلدُّنْيَا

وَتَزْهَقَ

أَنفُسُهُمْ

وَهُمْ

كَٰفِرُونَ

فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

So let not their riches nor their children please thee (O Muhammad). Allah thereby intendeth but to punish them in the life of the world and that their souls shall pass away while they are disbelievers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And they swear by Allah that they are in truth of you, when they are not of you, but they are folk who are afraid. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Had they but found a refuge, or caverns, or a place to enter, they surely had resorted thither swift as runaways. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And of them is he who defameth thee in the matter of the alms. If they are given thereof they are content, and if they are not given thereof, behold! they are enraged. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

There are some of them who blame you regarding [the distribution of] the charities: if they are given from them, they are pleased, but if they are not given from them, behold, they are displeased. - Qarai, Ali Quli

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ رَضُوا۟ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَٰغِبُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

(How much more seemly) had they been content with that which Allah and His messenger had given them and had said: Allah sufficeth us. Allah will give us of His bounty, and (also) His messenger. Unto Allah we are suppliants. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

[It would have been better] if they had been pleased with what Allah and His Apostle gave them, and had said, [Allah is sufficient for us; Allah and His Apostle will give to us out of His grace. Indeed to Allah do we eagerly turn.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Would that they had been pleased with what God and His Messenger had given them and had said, [God is All-Sufficient for us. God and His Messenger will soon do us more favors and we have hope in God's mercy.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And if they were content with what Allah and His Apostle gave them, and had said: Allah is sufficient for us; Allah will soon give us (more) out of His grace and His Apostle too; surely to Allah do we make our petition. - Shakir, Habib

کیا اچھا ہوتا کہ اللہ اور رسولؐ نے جو کچھ بھی انہیں دیا تھا اس پر وہ راضی رہتے اور کہتے کہ ——اللہ ہمارے لیے کافی ہے، وہ اپنے فضل سے ہمیں بہت کچھ دے گا اور اس کا رسول بھی ہم پر عنایت فرمائے گا، ہم اللہ ہی کی طرف نظر جمائے ہوئے ہیں—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

The alms are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allah, and (for) the wayfarer; a duty imposed by Allah. Allah is Knower, Wise. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Welfare funds (zakat) are only for the poor, the destitute, the tax collectors, those whose hearts are inclined (towards Islam), the slaves, those who cannot pay their debts, for the cause of God, and for those who have become needy on a journey. یہ صدقات تو دراصل فقیروں اور مسکینوں کے لیے ہیں اور اُن لوگوں کے لیے جو صدقات کے کام پر مامور ہوں، اور اُن کے لیے جن کی تالیف قلب مطلوب ہو نیز یہ گردنوں کے چھڑانے اور قرض داروں کی مدد کرنے میں اور راہ خدا میں اور مسافر نوازی میں استعمال کرنے کے لیے ہیں ایک فریضہ ہے اللہ کی طرف سے اور اللہ سب کچھ جاننے والا اور دانا و بینا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

And of them are those who vex the Prophet and say: He is only a hearer. Say: A hearer of good for you, who believeth in Allah and is true to the believers, and a mercy for such of you as believe. Those who vex the messenger of Allah, for them there is a painful doom. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And if thou ask them (O Muhammad) they will say: We did but talk and jest. Say: Was it at Allah and His revelations and His messenger that ye did scoff? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

If you question them [regarding their conduct], they will surely say, [We were just gossiping and amusing ourselves.] Say, [Were you deriding Allah, His signs, and His apostles? - Qarai, Ali Quli

If you question them about their manners, they say, [We were only arguing for the sake of amusement.] Ask them, [Were you mocking God, His revelations, and His Messenger?] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And if you should question them, they would certainly say: We were only idly discoursing and sporting. Say: Was it at Allah and His communications and His Apostle that you mocked? - Shakir, Habib
