Allah hath turned in mercy to the Prophet, and to the Muhajirin and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of hardship. After the hearts of a party of them had almost swerved aside, then turned He unto them in mercy. Lo! He is Full of Pity, Merciful for them. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Certainly Allah turned clemently to the Prophet and the Emigrants and the Helpers, who followed him in the hour of difficulty, after the hearts of a part of them were about to swerve. Then He turned clemently to them—indeed, He is most kind and merciful to them - Qarai, Ali Quli

God pardoned the Prophet, the Emigrants, the Helpers, and those who followed them, when the hearts of some of them almost deviated (from the truth) in their hour of difficulty. God forgave them because of His Compassion and Mercy. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Certainly Allah has turned (mercifully) to the Prophet and those who fled (their homes) and the helpers who followed him in the hour of straitness after the hearts of a part of them were about to deviate, then He turned to them (mercifully); surely to them He is Compassionate, Merciful. - Shakir, Habib

اللہ نے معاف کر دیا نبیؐ کو اور ان مہاجرین و انصار کو جنہوں نے بڑی تنگی کے وقت میں نبیؐ کا ساتھ دیا اگر چہ ان میں سے کچھ لوگوں کے دل کجی کی طرف مائل ہو چکے تھے (مگر جب انہوں نے اس کجی کا اتباع نہ کیا بلکہ نبیؐ کا ساتھ ہی دیا تو) اللہ نے انہیں معاف کر دیا، بے شک اُس کا معاملہ اِن لوگوں کے ساتھ شفقت و مہربانی کا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بیشک اللہ کی رحمتیں متوجہ ہوئیں ان غیب کی خبریں بتانے والے اور ان مہاجرین اور انصار پر جنہوں نے مشکل کی گھڑی میں ان کا ساتھ دیا بعد اس کے کہ قریب تھا کہ ان میں کچھ لوگوں کے دل پھر جائیں پھر ان پر رحمت سے متوجہ ہوا بیشک وہ ان پر نہایت مہربان رحم والا ہے - Ahmed Raza

And to the three also (did He turn in mercy) who were left behind, when the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for them, and their own souls were straitened for them till they bethought them that there is no refuge from Allah save toward Him. Then turned He unto them in mercy that they (too) might turn (repentant unto Him). Lo! Allah! He is the Relenting, the Merciful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

—and to the three who were left behind. When the earth became narrow for them with [all] its expanse, and their own souls weighed heavily on them, and they knew that there was no refuge from Allah except in Him, then He turned clemently toward them so that they might be penitent. Indeed Allah is the All-clement, the All-merciful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God also forgave the three people who lagged behind. Grief made them feel as though there was no place in the whole vast earth to hide them or in their souls to conceal their sorrow. They began to believe that no one could save them from (the wrath of God) except He Himself. God pardoned them so that they would also repent for their sins. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And to the three who were left behind, until the earth became strait to them notwithstanding its spaciousness and their souls were also straitened to them; and they knew it for certain that there was no refuge from Allah but in Him; then He turned to them (mercifully) that they might turn (to Him); surely Allah is the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful. - Shakir, Habib

He has turned with mercy to the three whose case was deferred, when the earth, for all its spaciousness, closed in upon them, and their own souls seemed straitened to them and they realised that there was no refuge from God except in Him. اوراللہ نے ان تینوں پر بھی رحم کیا جو جہاد سے پیچھے رہ گئے یہاں تک کہ زمین جب اپنی وسعتوں سمیت ان پر تنگ ہوگئی اور ان کے دم پر بن گئی اور انہوں نے یہ سمجھ لیا کہ ا ب اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی پناہ گاہ نہیں ہے تواللہ نے ان کی طرف توجہ فرمائی کہ وہ توبہ کرلیں اس لئے کہ وہ بڑا توبہ قبول کرنے والا اور مہربان ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اور اُن تینوں کو بھی اس نے معاف کیا جن کے معاملہ کو ملتوی کر دیا گیا تھا جب زمین اپنی ساری وسعت کے باوجود ان پر تنگ ہو گئی اور ان کی اپنی جانیں بھی ان پر بار ہونے لگیں اور انہوں نے جان لیا کہ اللہ سے بچنے کے لیے کوئی جائے پناہ خود اللہ ہی کے دامن رحمت کے سوا نہیں ہے، تو اللہ اپنی مہربانی سے ان کی طرف پلٹا تاکہ وہ اس کی طرف پلٹ آئیں، یقیناً وہ بڑا معاف کرنے والا اور رحیم ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور ان تین پر جو موقوف رکھے گئے تھے یہاں تک کہ جب زمین اتنی وسیع ہوکر ان پر تنگ ہوگئی اور ہو اپنی جان سے تنگ آئے اور انہیں یقین ہوا کہ اللہ سے پناہ نہیں مگر اسی کے پاس، پھر ان کی توبہ قبول کی کہ تائب رہیں، بیشک اللہ ہی توبہ قبول کرنے والا مہربان ہے، - Ahmed Raza

مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ أَن يَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَرْغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌۭ وَلَا نَصَبٌۭ وَلَا مَخْمَصَةٌۭ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَطَـُٔونَ مَوْطِئًۭا يَغِيظُ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّۢ نَّيْلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلٌۭ صَٰلِحٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

It is not for the townsfolk of Al-Madinah and for those around them of the wandering Arabs so stay behind the messenger of Allah and prefer their lives to his life. That is because neither thirst nor toil nor hunger afflicteth them in the way of Allah, nor step they any step that angereth the disbelievers, nor gain they from the enemy a gain, but a good deed is recorded for them therefor. Lo! Allah loseth not the wages of the good. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

It is not fitting for the people of Madinah and the Bedouins around them to hang back behind the Apostle of Allah and prefer their own lives to his life. That is because they neither experience any thirst, nor fatigue, nor hunger, in the way of Allah, nor do they tread any ground enraging the faithless, nor do they gain any ground against an enemy but a righteous deed is written for them on its account. Indeed Allah does not waste the reward of the virtuous. - Qarai, Ali Quli

The inhabitants of the city of Medina and the desert Arabs dwelling around it were not supposed to disobey the Messenger of God or to give priority to their own lives above that of the Prophet. For if they had given priority to the life of the Messenger of God, they would not have experienced the hardships of thirst, fatigue, or hunger in their struggle for the cause of God, nor would their travelling have enraged the disbelievers and they would not have received any injury from enemies that God would not record for them as a virtuous deed. God does not ignore the reward of those who do good. - Sarwar, Muhammad

It did not beseem the people of Medina and those round about them of the dwellers of the desert to remain behind the Apostle of Allah, nor should they desire (anything) for themselves in preference to him; this is because there afflicts them not thirst or fatigue or hunger in Allah's way, nor do they tread a path which enrages the unbelievers, nor do they attain from the enemy what they attain, but a good work is written down to them on account of it; surely Allah does not waste the reward of the doers of good; - Shakir, Habib

This is because whenever they suffer from thirst or weariness or hunger for God's cause, and whenever they take any step which provokes those who deny the truth, or inflicts any loss upon the enemy, it shall be counted as a good deed in the sight of God, God will not deny the righteous their reward, - Wahiduddin Khan

اہل مدینہ یا اس کے اطراف کے دیہاتیوں کو یہ حق نہیں ہے کہ وہ رسول خدا سے الگ ہوجائیں یا اپنے نفس کو ان کے نفس سے زیادہ عزیز سمجھیں اس لئے کہ انہیں کوئی پیاسً تھکن یا بھوک راہ هخدا میں نہیں لگتی ہے اور نہ وہ کّفار کے دل رَکھانے والا کوئی قدم اٹھاتے ہیں نہ کسی بھی دشمن سے کچھ حاصل کرتے ہیں مگر یہ کہ ان کے عمل نیک کو لکھ لیا جاتا ہے کہ خدا کسی بھی نیک عمل کرنے والے کے اجر و ثواب کو ضائع نہیں کرتا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

مدینے کے باشندوں اور گرد و نواح کے بدویوں کو یہ ہرگز زبیا نہ تھا کہ اللہ کے رسول کو چھوڑ کر گھر بیٹھ رہتے اور اس کی طرف سے بے پروا ہو کر اپنے اپنے نفس کی فکر میں لگ جاتے اس لیے کہ ایسا کبھی نہ ہوگا کہ اللہ کی راہ میں بھوک پیاس اور جسمانی مشقت کی کوئی تکلیف وہ جھیلیں، اور منکرین حق کو جو راہ ناگوار ہے اُس پر کوئی قدم وہ اٹھائیں، اور کسی دشمن سے (عداوت حق کا) کا کوئی انتقام وہ لیں اور اس کے بدلے ان کے حق میں ایک عمل صالح نہ لکھا جائے یقیناً اللہ کے ہاں محسنوں کا حق الخدمت مارا نہیں جاتا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

And whenever a surah is revealed there are some of them who say: Which one of you hath thus increased in faith? As for those who believe, it hath increased them in faith and they rejoice (therefor). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Whenever a surah is sent down, there are some of them who say, [Which of you did it increase in faith?] As for those who have faith, it increases them in faith, and they rejoice. - Qarai, Ali Quli

When a chapter (of the Quran) is revealed, some people ask others, [Whose faith among you people has received strength from this (revelation)?] It (the revelation) certainly strengthens the faith of the believers and they consider it to be a glad news. - Sarwar, Muhammad
