Say: Shall I choose for a protecting friend other than Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, Who feedeth and is never fed? Say: I am ordered to be the first to surrender (unto Him). And be not thou (O Muhammad) of the idolaters. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Say, [Shall I take for guardian [anyone] other than Allah, the originator of the heavens and the earth, who feeds and is not fed?] Say, [I have been commanded to be the first of those who submit [to Allah], and [told,] “Never be one of the polytheists.” ] - Qarai, Ali Quli

کہو، اللہ کو چھوڑ کر کیا میں کسی اور کو اپنا سر پرست بنا لوں؟ اُس خدا کو چھوڑ کر جو زمین و آسمان کا خالق ہے اور جو روزی دیتا ہے روزی لیتا نہیں ہے؟ کہو، مجھے تو یہی حکم دیا گیا ہے کہ سب سے پہلے میں اُس کے آگے سر تسلیم خم کروں (اور تاکید کی گئی ہے کہ کوئی شرک کرتا ہے تو کرے) تو بہرحال مشرکوں میں شامل نہ ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala
