وَجَعَلَهَا
And He made it
كَلِمَةًۢ
a declaration
بَاقِيَةًۭ
that is lasting
فِى
in
عَقِبِهِۦ
his succession
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَرْجِعُونَ
they return.
٤٣
٢٨
وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةًۢ بَاقِيَةًۭ فِى عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
And He made it a declaration that is lasting in his succession so that they may they return.

⦿
And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return.

He made it a lasting word among his posterity so that they may come back [to the right path].

بَلْ
On the contrary,
مَتَّعْتُ
provided amenities to
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
these
وَءَابَآءَهُمْ
and their forefathers
حَتَّىٰ
until
جَآءَهُمُ
came to them
ٱلْحَقُّ
the fact
وَرَسُولٌۭ
and a messenger
مُّبِينٌۭ
who has clarity.
٤٣
٢٩
بَلْ مَتَّعْتُ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ وَرَسُولٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ
On the contrary, provided amenities to these and their forefathers until came to them the fact and a messenger who has clarity.

⦿
Nay, but I let these and their fathers enjoy life (only) till there should come unto them the Truth and a messenger making plain.

Indeed, I provided for these and their fathers until the truth and a manifest apostle came to them.

In fact, We allowed them and their fathers to enjoy themselves until the truth and a strong Messenger came to them.

And whenever
جَآءَهُمُ
came to them
ٱلْحَقُّ
the fact
قَالُوا۟
they said,
هَٰذَا
[This is
سِحْرٌۭ
an illusion,
وَإِنَّا
and we
بِهِۦ
about it
كَٰفِرُونَ
are deniers.]
٤٣
٣٠
وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ قَالُوا۟ هَٰذَا سِحْرٌۭ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ
And whenever came to them the fact they said, [This is an illusion, and we about it are deniers.]

And now that the Truth hath come unto them they say: This is mere magic, and lo! we are disbelievers therein.

But when the truth came to them, they said, [This is magic, and we indeed disbelieve in it.]

When the truth came to them, they said, [This is magic and we have no faith in it].

And they said,
لَوْلَا
[Howcome not
نُزِّلَ

هَٰذَا

ٱلْقُرْءَانُ
Proclamation
عَلَىٰ
upon
رَجُلٍۢ
men
مِّنَ
from
ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ
the two cities of
عَظِيمٍ
grandeur?]
٤٣
٣١
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ
And they said, [Howcome not decended this Proclamation upon men from the two cities of grandeur?]

And they say: If only this Qur'an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns?

And they said, [Why was not this Quran sent down to some great man from the two cities?]

Then they said, [Why this Quran had not been revealed to a man from either of the two great towns].

And they say: Why was not this Quran revealed to a man of importance in the two towns?

They said, [Why was this Quran not sent down to one of the great men of the two cities?]

اور یہ کہنے لگے کہ آخر یہ قرآن دونوں بستیوں (مکہ و طائف) کے کسی بڑے آدمی پر کیوں نہیں نازل کیا گیا ہے

ۚ
نَحْنُ
We are who
قَسَمْنَا
make shares
بَيْنَهُم
between them of
مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ
their economies
فِى
in
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
the life of
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the World;
ۚ
وَرَفَعْنَا
and We raised
بَعْضَهُمْ
some of them
فَوْقَ
above
بَعْضٍۢ
some of
دَرَجَٰتٍۢ
degrees,
لِّيَتَّخِذَ
to make adopt
بَعْضُهُم
some of them
بَعْضًۭا
some others
سُخْرِيًّۭا
for service;
ۗ
وَرَحْمَتُ
and blessing of
رَبِّكَ
your Rabb
خَيْرٌۭ
is better
مِّمَّا
from what
يَجْمَعُونَ
they collect altogether.
٤٣
٣٢
أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍۢ دَرَجَٰتٍۢ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًۭا سُخْرِيًّۭا ۗ وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌۭ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
Are they sharing blessings of your Nourisher? We are who make shares between them of their economies in the life of the World; and We raised some of them above some of degrees, to make adopt some of them some others for service; and blessing of your Rabb is better from what they collect altogether.

Is it they who apportion thy Lord's mercy? We have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them above others in rank that some of them may take labour from others; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than (the wealth) that they amass.

Is it they who dispense the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have dispensed among them their livelihood in the present life, and raised some of them above others in rank, so that some may take others into service, and your Lord]s mercy is better than what they amass.

Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have distributed their sustenance in this world and raised the positions of some of them above the others so that they would mock each other. The mercy of your Lord is better than what they can amass.

Will they distribute the mercy of your Lord? We distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and We j have exalted some of them above others in degrees, that some of them may take others in subjection; and the mercy of your Lord is better than what they amass.

تو کیا یہی لوگ رحمت پروردگار کو تقسیم کررہے ہیں حالانکہ ہم نے ہی ان کے درمیان معیشت کو زندگانی دنیا میں تقسیم کیا ہے اور بعض کو بعض سے اونچا بنایا ہے تاکہ ایک دوسرے سے کام لے سکیں اور رحمت پروردگار ان کے جمع کئے ہوئے مال و متاع سے کہیں زیادہ بہتر ہے

کیا تیرے رب کی رحمت یہ لوگ تقسیم کرتے ہیں؟ دنیا کی زندگی میں اِن کی گزر بسر کے ذرائع تو ہم نے اِن کے درمیان تقسیم کیے ہیں، اور اِن میں سے کچھ لوگوں کو کچھ دوسرے لوگوں پر ہم نے بدرجہا فوقیت دی ہے تاکہ یہ ایک دوسرے سے خدمت لیں اور تیرے رب کی رحمت اُس دولت سے زیادہ قیمتی ہے جو (اِن کے رئیس) سمیٹ رہے ہیں

کیا تمہارے رب کی رحمت وہ بانٹتے ہیں ہم نے ان میں ان کی زیست کا سامان دنیا کی زندگی میں بانٹا اور ان میں ایک دوسرے پر درجوں بلندی دی کہ ان میں ایک دوسرے کی ہنسی بنائے اور تمہارے رب کی رحمت ان کی جمع جتھا سے بہتر

وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةًۭ وَٰحِدَةًۭ لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًۭا مِّن فِضَّةٍۢ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ

And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in the Beneficent, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount,

Were it not [for the danger] that mankind would be one community, We would have made for those who defy the All-beneficent, silver roofs for their houses and [silver] stairways by which they ascend,

Were it not for the fear that all people would become one in disbelief, We would have made for the disbelievers in the Beneficent God ceilings out of silver and ladders by which they would climb up,

And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent Allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend.

اگر یہ اندیشہ نہ ہوتا کہ سارے لوگ ایک ہی طریقے کے ہو جائیں گے تو خدائے رحمان سے کفر کرنے والوں کے گھروں کی چھتیں، اور ان کی سیڑھیاں جن سے وہ اپنے بالا خانوں پر چڑھتے ہیں

اور اگر یہ نہ ہوتا کہ سب لوگ ایک دین پر ہوجائیں تو ہم ضرور رحمٰن کے منکروں کے لیے چاندی کی چھتیں اور سیڑھیاں بناتے جن پر چڑھتے،

And for their houses doors (of silver) and couches of silver whereon to recline,

And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of the Beneficent, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade;

Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade!

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.
