Allah receiveth (men's) souls at the time of their death, and that (soul) which dieth not (yet) in its sleep. He keepeth that (soul) for which He hath ordained death and dismisseth the rest till an appointed term. Lo! herein verily are portents for people who take thought. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those who have not died, in their sleep. Then He retains those for whom He has ordained death and releases the others until a specified time. There are indeed signs in that for a people who reflect. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God will receive their souls when they die. Their souls do not die when they are sleeping. During people's sleep He withholds those souls which He has decreed to die and releases the others for an appointed time. In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the thoughtful people. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep; then He withholds those on whom He has passed the decree of death and sends the others back till an appointed term; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect. - Shakir, Habib

اللہ ہی ہے جو روحوں کو موت کے وقت اپنی طرف بلالیتا ہے اور جو نہیں مرتے ہیں ان کی روحوں کو بھی نیند کے وقت طلب کرلیتا ہے اور پھر جس کی موت کا فیصلہ کرلیتا ہے اس کی روح کو روک لیتا ہے اور دوسری روحوں کو ایک مقررہ مدّت کے لئے آزاد کردیتا ہے - اس بات میں صاحبان هفکر و نظر کے لئے بہت سی نشانیاں پائی جاتی ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

وہ اللہ ہی ہے جو موت کے وقت روحیں قبض کرتا ہے اور جو ابھی نہیں مرا ہے اُس کی روح نیند میں قبض کر لیتا ہے، پھر جس پر وہ موت کا فیصلہ نافذ کرتا ہے اُسے روک لیتا ہے اور دوسروں کی روحیں ایک وقت مقرر کے لیے واپس بھیج دیتا ہے اِس میں بڑی نشانیاں ہیں اُن لوگوں کے لیے جو غور و فکر کرنے والے ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

not
يَمْلِكُونَ
possessors of

a thing,
وَلَا
and were not
يَعْقِلُونَ
those who use their intelligence?]

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُفَعَآءَ ۚ قُلْ أَوَلَوْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ Or is that they take from inferior to the One mediators? Say, [Even if they were not possessors of a thing, and were not those who use their intelligence?]

Or choose they intercessors other than Allah? Say: What! Even though they have power over nothing and have no intelligence? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Have they chosen intercessors besides God? Say, [Would you choose them as your intercessors even though they do not possess anything and have no understanding?] - Sarwar, Muhammad

کیا ان لوگوں نے خدا کو چھوڑ کر سفارش کرنے والے اختیار کرلئے ہیں تو آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ ایسا کیوں ہے چاہے یہ لوگ کوئی اختیار نہ رکھتے ہوں اور کسی طرح کی بھی عقل نہ رکھتے ہوں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کیا اُس خدا کو چھوڑ کر اِن لوگوں نے دوسروں کو شفیع بنا رکھا ہے؟ ان سے کہو، کیا وہ شفاعت کریں گے خواہ اُن کے اختیار میں کچھ نہ ہو اور وہ سمجھتے بھی نہ ہوں؟ - Maududi, Abul A'ala

Say,
لِّلَّهِ
[Belongs to the One
ٱلشَّفَٰعَةُ
the mediation
جَمِيعًۭا
altogether;
ۖ
لَّهُۥ
belong to Him
مُلْكُ
ownerships of
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the atmospheres
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the matter,
ۖ
ثُمَّ
then after,
إِلَيْهِ
to Him
تُرْجَعُونَ
you will return.]

٤٤
قُل لِّلَّهِ ٱلشَّفَٰعَةُ جَمِيعًۭا ۖ لَّهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ Say, [Belongs to the One the mediation altogether; belong to Him ownerships of the atmospheres and the matter, then after, to Him you will return.]

Say: Unto Allah belongeth all intercession. His is the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. And afterward unto Him ye will be brought back. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Say, [All intercession rests with Allah. To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; then you will be brought back to Him.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

کہو، شفاعت ساری کی ساری اللہ کے اختیار میں ہے آسمانوں اور زمین کی بادشاہی کا وہی مالک ہے پھر اُسی کی طرف تم پلٹائے جانے والے ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تم فرماؤ شفاعت تو سب اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہے اسی کے لیے ہے آسمانوں اور زمین کی بادشاہی، پھر تمہیں اسی کی طرف پلٹنا ہے - Ahmed Raza

وَإِذَا
And whenever
ذُكِرَ
is mentioned
ٱللَّهُ
the One
وَحْدَهُ
as alone,
ٱشْمَأَزَّتْ
disgusted are
قُلُوبُ
hearts of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
لَا
not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
are convinced
بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
about the forthcoming;
ۖ
وَإِذَا
and whenever
ذُكِرَ
are mentioned
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who are
مِن
of
دُونِهِۦٓ
inferior to Him,
إِذَا
that is when
هُمْ
they are
يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
absolutely joyous.
٣٩
٤٥
وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ ٱشْمَأَزَّتْ قُلُوبُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ And whenever is mentioned the One as alone, disgusted are hearts of the ones who not are convinced about the forthcoming; and whenever are mentioned the ones who are of inferior to Him, that is when they are absolutely joyous.

And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are repelled, and when those (whom they worship) beside Him are mentioned, behold! they are glad. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When Allah is mentioned alone, [thereat] shrink away the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter, but when others are mentioned besides Him, behold, they rejoice! - Qarai, Ali Quli

When one God is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment begin to shrink, but when the idols are mentioned, they rejoice. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the hereafter shrink, and when those besides Him are mentioned, lo! they are joyful. - Shakir, Habib

Say: O Allah! Creator of the heavens and the earth! Knower of the Invisible and the Visible! Thou wilt judge between Thy slaves concerning that wherein they used to differ. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

وَلَوْ أَنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا وَمِثْلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ بِهِۦ مِن سُوٓءِ ٱلْعَذَابِ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۚ وَبَدَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ يَحْتَسِبُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And though those who do wrong possess all that is in the earth, and therewith as much again, they verily will seek to ransom themselves therewith on the Day of Resurrection from the awful doom; and there will appear unto them, from their Lord, that wherewith they never reckoned. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Even if the wrongdoers possessed all that is on the earth, and as much of it besides, they would offer it on the Day of Resurrection to redeem themselves with it from a terrible punishment, and there will appear to them from Allah what they had never reckoned. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Had the unjust possessed double the amount of the wealth of the whole earth, they would certainly have liked to offer it on the Day of Resurrection as redemption from the torment of Our scourge when God would make public what they had never expected. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And had those who are unjust all that is in the earth and the like of it with it, they would certainly offer it as ransom (to be saved) from the evil of the punishment on the day of resurrection; and what they never thought of shall become plain to them from Allah. - Shakir, Habib

If the wrongdoers possessed all that is on earth, and twice as much, they would offer it to redeem themselves from the awful suffering on the Day of Resurrection. For God will show them what they had never anticipated, - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اگر ظلم کرنے والوں کو زمین کی تمام کائنات مل جائے اور اتنا ہی اور بھی مل جائے تو بھی یہ روزِ قیامت کے بدترین عذاب کے بدلہ میں سب دے دیں گے لیکن ان کے لئے خدا کی طرف سے وہ سب بہرحال ظاہر ہوگا جس کا یہ وہم و گمان بھی نہیں رکھتے تھے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اگر اِن ظالموں کے پاس زمین کی ساری دولت بھی ہو، اور اتنی ہی اور بھی، تو یہ روز قیامت کے برے عذاب سے بچنے کے لیے سب کچھ فدیے میں دینے کے لیے تیار ہو جائیں گے وہاں اللہ کی طرف سے ان کے سامنے وہ کچھ آئے گا جس کا انہوں نے کبھی اندازہ ہی نہیں کیا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اگر ظالموں کے لیے ہوتا جو کچھ زمین میں ہے سب اور اس کے ساتھ اس جیسا تو یہ سب چھڑائی (چھڑانے) میں دیتے روز ِ قیامت کے بڑے عذاب سے اور انہیں اللہ کی طرف سے وہ بات ظاہر ہوئی جو ان کے خیال میں نہ تھی - Ahmed Raza

Now when hurt toucheth a man he crieth unto Us, and afterward when We have granted him a boon from Us, he saith: Only by force of knowledge I obtained it. Nay, but it is a test. But most of them know not. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When distress befalls man, he supplicates Us. Then, when We grant him a blessing from Us, he says, [I was given it by virtue of [my] knowledge.] Indeed, it is a test, but most of them do not know. - Qarai, Ali Quli

When the human being is afflicted with hardship, he cries out to us for help. When We grant him a favor, he says, [I knew that I deserved it.] In fact, it is only a test for him, but most people do not know this. - Sarwar, Muhammad

So when harm afflicts a man he calls upon Us; then, when We give him a favor from Us, he says: I have been given it only by means of knowledge. Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know. - Shakir, Habib

When affliction befalls man, he appeals to Us; but when We bestow a favour upon him he says, [All this has been given to me because of my own knowledge.] By no means! It is a trial: yet most of them do not realize it. - Wahiduddin Khan

پھر جب انسان کو کوئی تکلیف پہنچتی ہے تو ہمیں پکارتا ہے اور اس کے بعد جب ہم کوئی نعمت دیدیتے ہیں تو کہتا ہے کہ یہ تو مجھے میرے علم کے زور پر دی گئی ہے حالانکہ یہ ایک آزمائش ہے اور اکثر لوگ اس کا علم نہیں رکھتے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

یہی انسان جب ذرا سی مصیبت اِسے چھو جاتی ہے تو ہمیں پکارتا ہے، اور جب ہم اسے اپنی طرف سے نعمت دے کر اپھار دیتے ہیں تو کہتا ہے کہ یہ تو مجھے علم کی بنا پر دیا گیا ہے! نہیں، بلکہ یہ آزمائش ہے، مگر ان میں سے اکثر لوگ جانتے نہیں ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ سَيُصِيبُهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَمَا هُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]
⦿
But the evils that they earned smote them; and such of these as do wrong, the evils that they earn will smite them; they cannot escape. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

So the evils of what they had earned visited them, and as for the wrongdoers among these, the evils of what they earn shall be visited on them and they will not frustrate [Allah]. - Qarai, Ali Quli

They were afflicted by the terrible result of whatever they gained. Besides this affliction, the unjust among them will also suffer the consequence of their deeds. They will not be able to challenge God. - Sarwar, Muhammad

So there befell them the evil (consequences) of what they earned; and (as for) those who are unjust from among these, there shall befall them the evil (consequences) of what they earn, and they shall not escape. - Shakir, Habib

the very evil of their deeds recoiled upon them; today's wrongdoers shall also have the evil of their deeds recoil upon them: they will never be able to frustrate [Our plan]. - Wahiduddin Khan

بلکہ ان کے اعمال کے برے اثرات ان تک پہنچ گئے اور ان کفاّر میں سے بھی جو لوگ ظلم کرنے والے ہیں ان تک ان کے اعمال کے اِرے اثرت پہنچیں گے اور وہ خدا کو عاجز نہیں کرسکتے ہیں - Jawadi, Zeeshan

پھر اپنی کمائی کے برے نتائج انہوں نے بھگتے، اور اِن لوگوں میں سے بھی جو ظالم ہیں وہ عنقریب اپنی کمائی کے برے نتائج بھگتیں گے، یہ ہمیں عاجز کر دینے والے نہیں ہیں - Maududi, Abul A'ala

أَوَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَٰتٍۢ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يُؤْمِنُونَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Know they not that Allah enlargeth providence for whom He will, and straiteneth it (for whom He will). Lo! herein verily are portents for people who believe. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Do they not know that Allah expands the provision for whomever He wishes and tightens it [for whomever He wishes]? There are indeed signs in that for a people who have faith. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Did they not know that God determines and increases the sustenance of whomever He wants. In this there is evidence (of the truth) for the believing people. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Do they not know that Allah makes ample the means of subsistence to whom He pleases, and He straitens; most surely there are signs in this for a people who believe. - Shakir, Habib
