قُلْ
Say,
يَٰٓأَهْلَ
[O the holders of
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
the Book!
لِمَ
For what
تَكْفُرُونَ
are you in denial
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
about the signs of
ٱللَّهِ
the One,
وَٱللَّهُ
while the One is
شَهِيدٌ
as witness
عَلَىٰ
upon
مَا
what
تَعْمَلُونَ
you are doing?]
٣
٩٨
قُلْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ شَهِيدٌ عَلَىٰ مَا تَعْمَلُونَ Say, [O the holders of the Book! For what are you in denial about the signs of the One, while the One is as witness upon what you are doing?]

Say: O People of the Scripture! Why disbelieve ye in the revelations of Allah, when Allah (Himself) is Witness of what ye do? - Pickthall, Marmaduke

(Muhammad), ask the People of the Book, [Why do you deny the revelations of God when He is Well-Aware of your dealings?]. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Say: O followers of the Book! why do you disbelieve in the communications of Allah? And Allah is a witness of what you do. - Shakir, Habib

اے اہل ههکتاب کیوں آیات الٰہی کا انکار کرتے ہو جب کہ خدا تمہارے اعمال کا گواہ ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کہو، اے اہل کتاب! تم کیوں اللہ کی باتیں ماننے سے انکار کرتے ہو؟ جو حرکتیں تم کر رہے ہو اللہ سب کچھ دیکھ رہا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تم فرماؤ اے کتابیو! اللہ کی آیتیں کیوں نہیں مانتے اور تمہارے کام اللہ سامنے ہیں، - Ahmed Raza

(اے رسول(ص)) کہہ دیجیے! اے اہل کتاب تم آیاتِ الٰہیہ کا کیوں انکار کرتے ہو؟ حالانکہ تم جو کچھ کرتے ہو خدا اس کا گو اہ ہے (سب کچھ دیکھ رہا ہے) ۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

قُلْ
Say,
يَٰٓأَهْلَ
[O the holders of
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
the Book!
لِمَ
For what
تَصُدُّونَ
do you stop
عَن
from
سَبِيلِ
path of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
مَنْ
— ones who
ءَامَنَ
became convinced —
تَبْغُونَهَا
seeking in it
عِوَجًۭا
crookedness
وَأَنتُمْ
while you
شُهَدَآءُ
are witnesses?
ۗ
وَمَا
And not is
ٱللَّهُ
the One
بِغَٰفِلٍ
with unawareness
عَمَّا
above what
تَعْمَلُونَ
you are doing.]
٣
٩٩
قُلْ يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لِمَ تَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ تَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًۭا وَأَنتُمْ شُهَدَآءُ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ Say, [O the holders of the Book! For what do you stop from path of the One — ones who became convinced — seeking in it crookedness while you are witnesses? And not is the One with unawareness above what you are doing.]

Say: O People of the Scripture! Why drive ye back believers from the way of Allah, seeking to make it crooked, when ye are witnesses (to Allah's guidance)? Allah is not unaware of what ye do. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Say, [O People of the Book! why do you bar the faithful from the way of Allah, seeking to make it crooked, while you are witnesses [to its truthfulness]? And Allah is not oblivious of what you do.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

Ask them, [Why do you create obstacles in the way of God for those who believe in Him, trying to make His way seem crooked when you know that it is straight? God is not unaware of what you do. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Say: O followers of the Book! why do you hinder him who believes from the way of Allah? You seek (to make) it crooked, while you are witness, and Allah is not heedless of what you do. - Shakir, Habib

Say, [People of the Book, why do you turn the believers away from the path of God, seeking to make it crooked, while you are witnesses thereof? God is not unaware of what you do.] - Wahiduddin Khan

کہئے اے اہلِ کتاب کیوں صاحبانِ ایمان کو راسِ خدا سے روکتے ہو اور اس میں کجی تلاش کرتے ہو جبکہ تم خود اس کی صحت کے گواہ ہو اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے غافل نہیں ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کہو، اے اہل کتاب! یہ تمہاری کیا روش ہے کہ جو اللہ کی بات مانتا ہے اُسے بھی تم اللہ کے راستہ سے روکتے ہو اور چاہتے ہو کہ وہ ٹیڑھی راہ چلے، حالانکہ تم خود (اس کے راہ راست ہونے پر) گواہ ہو تمہاری حرکتوں سے اللہ غافل نہیں ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

تم فرماؤ اے کتابیو! کیوں اللہ کی راہ سے روکتے ہو اسے جو ایمان لائے اسے ٹیڑھا کیا چاہتے ہو اور تم خود اس پر گواہ ہو اور اللہ تمہارے کوتکوں (برے اعمال، کرتوت) سے بے خبر نہیں، - Ahmed Raza

کہیے۔ اے اہل کتاب! آخر تم اس شخص کو جو ایمان لانا چاہتا ہے کیوں خدا کی راہ سے روکتے ہو؟ اور چاہتے ہو کہ اس راہ (راست) کو ٹیڑھا بنا دو حالانکہ تم خود گواہ ہو (کہ سیدھی راہ یہی ہے) اور جو کچھ تم کرتے ہو خدا اس سے بے خبر نہیں ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
[O you of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
are convinced!
إِن
If
تُطِيعُوا۟
you obey
فَرِيقًۭا
sectarians
مِّنَ
from
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
أُوتُوا۟
have been given
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book,
يَرُدُّوكُم
it will push you back into,
بَعْدَ
after
إِيمَٰنِكُمْ
your conviction,
كَٰفِرِينَ
the deniers.]
٣
١٠٠
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تُطِيعُوا۟ فَرِيقًۭا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَرُدُّوكُم بَعْدَ إِيمَٰنِكُمْ كَٰفِرِينَ [O you of the ones who are convinced! If you obey sectarians from the ones who have been given the Book, it will push you back into, after your conviction, the deniers.]

O ye who believe! If ye obey a party of those who have received the Scripture they will make you disbelievers after your belief. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

O you who have faith, if you obey a part of those who were given the Book, they will turn you back, after your faith, into faithless ones. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Believers, if you obey a certain group among the People of the Book, they will turn you back to disbelief. - Sarwar, Muhammad

O you who believe! if you obey a party from among those who have been given the Book, they will turn you back as unbelievers after you have believed. - Shakir, Habib

O believers, if you yield to some of those who were given the Scripture, they will cause you to renounce the truth after you have believed. - Wahiduddin Khan

اے ایمان والواگر تم نے اہلِ کتاب کے ِس گروہ کی اطاعت کرلی تو یہ تم کو ایمان کے بعد کفر کی طرف پلٹا دیں گے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اے لوگو جو ایمان لائے ہو، اگر تم نے اِن اہل کتاب میں سے ایک گروہ کی بات مانی تو یہ تمہیں ایمان سے پھر کفر کی طرف پھیر لے جائیں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اے ایمان والو! اگر تم کچھ کتابیوں کے کہے پر چلے تو وہ تمہارے ایمان کے بعد کافر کر چھوڑیں گے - Ahmed Raza
⦿
اے ایمان والو! اگر تم نے اہل کتاب میں سے کسی گروہ کی بات مان لی تو یہ تمہیں ایمان کے بعد کفر کی طرف پلٹا دیں گے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَكَيْفَ
And how do
تَكْفُرُونَ
you deny
وَأَنتُمْ
while you are
تُتْلَىٰ
being recited
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
ءَايَٰتُ
verses of
ٱللَّهِ
the One,
وَفِيكُمْ
and amongst you is
رَسُولُهُۥ
His messenger?
ۗ
وَمَن
And whoever
يَعْتَصِم
held on
بِٱللَّهِ
with the One,
فَقَدْ
then surely
هُدِىَ
will be guided
إِلَىٰ
towards
صِرَٰطٍۢ
path of
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
stability.
٣
١٠١
وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنتُمْ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَٰتُ ٱللَّهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُۥ ۗ وَمَن يَعْتَصِم بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ هُدِىَ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ And how do you deny while you are being recited upon you verses of the One, and amongst you is His messenger? And whoever held on with the One, then surely will be guided towards path of stability.

How can ye disbelieve, when it is ye unto whom Allah's revelations are recited, and His messenger is in your midst? He who holdeth fast to Allah, he indeed is guided unto a right path. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And how would you be faithless while the signs of Allah are recited to you and His Apostle is in your midst? Whoever takes recourse in Allah is certainly guided to a straight path. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
How could you turn back to disbelief when the words of God are recited to you and you have in your midst His Messenger? Those who seek the protection of God will certainly be guided to the right path. - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
But how can you disbelieve while it is you to whom the communications of Allah are recited, and among you is His Apostle? And whoever holds fast to Allah, he indeed is guided to the right path. - Shakir, Habib

But how can you deny the truth when God's revelations are being conveyed to you and His own Messenger is in your midst? He who holds fast to God is indeed guided to the straight path. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور تم لوگ کس طرح کافر ہوجاؤ گے جب کہ تمہارے سامنے آیات هالٰہیٰہ کی تلاوت ہورہی ہے اور تمہارے درمیان رسول موجود ہے اور جو خدا سے وابستہ ہوجائے سمجھو کہ اسے سیدھے راستہ کی ہدایت کردی گئی - Jawadi, Zeeshan

تمہارے لیے کفر کی طرف جانے کا اب کیا موقع باقی ہے جب کہ تم کو اللہ کی آیات سنائی جا رہی ہیں اور تمہارے درمیان اس کا رسولؐ موجود ہے؟ جو اللہ کا دامن مضبوطی کے ساتھ تھامے گا وہ ضرور راہ راست پالے گا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور تم کیوں کر کفر کروگے تم پر اللہ کی آیتیں پڑھی جاتی ہیں اور تم میں اس کا رسول تشریف لایا اور جس نے اللہ کا سہارا لیا تو ضرور وہ سیدھی راہ دکھایا گیا، - Ahmed Raza

اور بھلا تم کیوں کر کفر اختیار کر سکتے ہو۔ جبکہ تمہارے سامنے برابر خدا کی آیتیں پڑھی جا رہی ہیں اور تمہارے درمیان اس کا رسول موجود ہے۔ اور جو شخص خدا سے وابستہ ہوگیا وہ ضرور سیدھے راستے پر لگا دیا گیا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

كيف | then how | how can | how do | interrogative and exclamatory
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
have conviction!
ٱتَّقُوا۟
Be aware of
ٱللَّهَ
the One
حَقَّ
as is a right
تُقَاتِهِۦ
to be aware of Him,
وَلَا
and do not
تَمُوتُنَّ
die
إِلَّا
except
وَأَنتُم
while you are
مُّسْلِمُونَ
in submission.
٣
١٠٢
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِۦ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ O you of the ones who have conviction! Be aware of the One as is a right to be aware of Him, and do not die except while you are in submission.

O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him) - Pickthall, Marmaduke

O you who have faith! Be wary of Allah with the wariness due to Him and do not die except as Muslims. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
Believers, have fear of God as you should and die only as Muslims (having submitted to the will of God). - Sarwar, Muhammad
⦿
O you who believe! be careful of (your duty to) Allah with the care which is due to Him, and do not die unless you are Muslims. - Shakir, Habib
⦿
Believers, fear God as is His due, and when death comes, be in a state of complete submission to Him. - Wahiduddin Khan

ایمان والو اللہ سے اس طرح ڈرو جو ڈرنے کا حق ہے اور خبردار اس وقت تک نہ مرنا جب تک مسلمان نہ ہوجاؤ - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اے لوگو جو ایمان لائے ہو، اللہ سے ڈرو جیسا کہ اس سے ڈرنے کا حق ہے تم کو موت نہ آئے مگر اس حال میں کہ تم مسلم ہو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اے ایمان والو! اللہ سے ڈرو جیسا اس سے ڈرنے کا حق ہے اور ہرگز نہ مرنا مگر مسلمان، - Ahmed Raza
⦿
اے ایمان والو! خدا سے اس طرح ڈرو جیساکہ ڈرنے کا حق ہے اور ہرگز نہ مرو مگر اس حالت میں کہ تم مسلمان ہو۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟
And hold on firmly
بِحَبْلِ
with rope of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
جَمِيعًۭا
collectively,
وَلَا
and do not
تَفَرَّقُوا۟
become sectarians.
ۚ
وَٱذْكُرُوا۟
And remember
نِعْمَتَ
bounty of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
إِذْ
when
كُنتُمْ
you were
أَعْدَآءًۭ
enemies,
فَأَلَّفَ
then was poured love
بَيْنَ
between
قُلُوبِكُمْ
your hearts,
فَأَصْبَحْتُم
thus making you
بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ
by His favour
إِخْوَٰنًۭا
as brothers,
وَكُنتُمْ
and you were
عَلَىٰ
upon
شَفَا
edge of
حُفْرَةٍۢ
a pit
مِّنَ
of
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire,
فَأَنقَذَكُم
thus you were saved
مِّنْهَا
from it.
ۗ
كَذَٰلِكَ
That is how
يُبَيِّنُ
makes clear
ٱللَّهُ
the One
لَكُمْ
for you
ءَايَٰتِهِۦ
signs
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that perhaps you
تَهْتَدُونَ
may be guided.
٣
١٠٣
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟ بِحَبْلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًۭا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَآءًۭ فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ إِخْوَٰنًۭا وَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَفَا حُفْرَةٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ فَأَنقَذَكُم مِّنْهَا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ And hold on firmly with rope of the One collectively, and do not become sectarians. And remember bounty of the One upon you when you were enemies, then was poured love between your hearts, thus making you by His favour as brothers, and you were upon edge of a pit of the fire, thus you were saved from it. That is how makes clear the One for you signs so that perhaps you may be guided.

And hold fast, all of you together, to the cable of Allah, and do not separate. And remember Allah's favour unto you: How ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts so that ye became as brothers by His grace; and (how) ye were upon the brink of an abyss of fire, and He did save you from it. Thus Allah maketh clear His revelations unto you, that haply ye may be guided, - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Hold fast, all together, to Allah]s cord, and do not be divided [into sects]. Remember Allah]s blessing upon you when you were enemies, then He brought your hearts together, so you became brothers with His blessing. And you were on the brink of a pit of Fire, whereat He saved you from it. Thus does Allah clarify His signs for you so that you may be guided. - Qarai, Ali Quli
⦿
All of you united hold fast to the rope of God (the Quran and His Messenger), and recall how He favored you when your hostility to each other had torn you apart. He united your hearts in one faith and through His Grace you became brothers. You were on the verge of falling headlong into the abyss of fire, but God saved you. This is how God explains to you His revelations so that you may have the right guidance. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And hold fast by the covenant of Allah all together and be not disunited, and remember the favor of Allah on you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts so by His favor you became brethren; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire, then He saved you from it, thus does Allah make clear to you His communications that you may follow the right way. - Shakir, Habib

Hold fast to the cord of God and let nothing divide you. Remember the blessings He has bestowed upon you; you were enemies and then He united your hearts and by His grace you became brothers; you were on the brink of an abyss of Fire and He rescued you from it. Thus God makes His signs clear to you, so that you may find guidance. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور اللہ کی ر سّی کو مضبوطی سے پکڑے رہو اور آپس میں تفرقہ نہ پیدا کرو اور اللہ کی نعمت کو یاد کرو کہ تم لوگ آپس میں دشمن تھے اس نے تمہارے دلوں میں اُلفت پیدا کردی تو تم اس کی نعمت سے بھائی بھائی بن گئے اور تم جہّنم کے کنارے پر تھے تو اس نے تمہیں نکال لیا اور اللہ اسی طرح اپنی آیتیں بیان کرتا ہے کہ شاید تم ہدایت یافتہ بن جاؤ - Jawadi, Zeeshan

سب مل کر اللہ کی رسی کو مضبوط پکڑ لو اور تفرقہ میں نہ پڑو اللہ کے اُس احسان کو یاد رکھو جو اس نے تم پر کیا ہے تم ایک دوسرے کے دشمن تھے، اُس نے تمہارے دل جوڑ دیے اور اس کے فضل و کرم سے تم بھائی بھائی بن گئے تم آگ سے بھرے ہوئے ایک گڑھے کے کنارے کھڑے تھے، اللہ نے تم کو اس سے بچا لیا اس طرح اللہ اپنی نشانیاں تمہارے سامنے روشن کرتا ہے شاید کہ اِن علامتوں سے تمہیں اپنی فلاح کا سیدھا راستہ نظر آ جائے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور اللہ کی رسی مضبوط تھام لو سب مل کر اور آپس میں پھٹ نہ جانا (فرقوں میں نہ بٹ جانا) اور اللہ کا احسان اپنے اوپر یاد کرو جب تم میں بیر تھا اس نے تمہارے دلوں میں ملاپ کردیا تو اس کے فضل سے تم آپس میں بھائی ہوگئے اور تم ایک غار دوزخ کے کنارے پر تھے تو اس نے تمہیں اس سے بچادیا اللہ تم سے یوں ہی اپنی آیتیں بیان فرماتا ہے کہ کہیں تم ہدایت پاؤ، - Ahmed Raza

And so that there be
مِّنكُمْ
from you
أُمَّةٌۭ
a nation
يَدْعُونَ
who calls
إِلَى
towards
ٱلْخَيْرِ
the better
وَيَأْمُرُونَ
and commands
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
with known authority
وَيَنْهَوْنَ
and forbids
عَنِ
against
ٱلْمُنكَرِ
the forbidden;
ۚ
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
and those
هُمُ
are
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
the ones who are successful.

١٠٤
وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌۭ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ And so that there be from you a nation who calls towards the better and commands with known authority and forbids against the forbidden; and those are the ones who are successful.

And there may spring from you a nation who invite to goodness, and enjoin right conduct and forbid indecency. Such are they who are successful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And do not
تَكُونُوا۟
become
كَٱلَّذِينَ
as those who
تَفَرَّقُوا۟
are sectarians
وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟
and are in disagreement
مِنۢ
from
بَعْدِ
after
مَا
what
جَآءَهُمُ
came to them of
ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ
the clarifications;
ۚ
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
those
لَهُمْ
upon them is
عَذَابٌ
a torment
عَظِيمٌۭ
of great magnitude.
٣
١٠٥
وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ تَفَرَّقُوا۟ وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ And do not become as those who are sectarians and are in disagreement from after what came to them of the clarifications; those upon them is a torment of great magnitude.

And be ye not as those who separated and disputed after the clear proofs had come unto them. For such there is an awful doom, - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Do not be like those who became divided [into sects] and differed after manifest signs had come to them. For such there will be a great punishment - Qarai, Ali Quli

Do not be like those who turned into quarrelling sects after receiving clear authoritative evidence. They will suffer a great torment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And be not like those who became divided and disagreed after clear arguments had come to them, and these it is that shall have a grievous chastisement. - Shakir, Habib

Do not be like those who, after they had been given clear evidence, split into factions and differed among themselves: a terrible punishment awaits such people. - Wahiduddin Khan

اور خبردار ان لوگوں کی طرح نہ ہوجاؤ جنہوں نے تفرقہ پیدا کیا اور واضح نشانیوں کے آجانے کے بعد بھی اختلاف کیا کہ ان کے لئے عذاب هعظیم ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

کہیں تم اُن لوگوں کی طرح نہ ہو جانا جو فرقوں میں بٹ گئے اور کھلی کھلی واضح ہدایات پانے کے بعد پھر اختلافات میں مبتلا ہوئے جنہوں نے یہ روش اختیار کی وہ اُس روزسخت سزا پائیں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala
