Verily Allah heard the saying of those who said, (when asked for contributions to the war): [Allah, forsooth, is poor, and we are rich!] We shall record their saying with their slaying of the prophets wrongfully and We shall say: Taste ye the punishment of burning! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Allah has certainly heard the remark of those who said, [Allah is poor and we are rich.] We will record what they have said, and their killing of the prophets unjustly, and We shall say, [Taste the punishment of the burning. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God certainly has heard the words of those who said, [God is poor and we are wealthy]. We shall write down what they have said and their murder of the Prophets without reason and We shall tell them to suffer the burning torment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

اللہ نے اُن لوگوں کا قول سنا جو کہتے ہیں کہ اللہ فقیر ہے اور ہم غنی ہیں ان کی یہ باتیں بھی ہم لکھ لیں گے، اور اس سے پہلے جو وہ پیغمبروں کو ناحق قتل کرتے رہے ہیں وہ بھی ان کے نامہ اعمال میں ثبت ہے (جب فیصلہ کا وقت آئے گا اُس وقت) ہم ان سے کہیں گے کہ لو، اب عذاب جہنم کا مزا چکھو - Maududi, Abul A'ala

بیشک اللہ نے سنا جنہوں نے کہا کہ اللہ محتاج ہے اور ہم غنی اور ہم غنی اب ہم لکھ رکھیں گے ان کا کہا اور انبیاء کو ان کا ناحق شہید کرنا اور فرمائیں گے کہ چکھو آگ کا عذاب، - Ahmed Raza

ذَٰلِكَ
That is
بِمَا
due to what
قَدَّمَتْ
have put forth
أَيْدِيكُمْ
their hands
وَأَنَّ
and certainly
ٱللَّهَ
the One
لَيْسَ
is not
بِظَلَّامٍۢ
with unfairness
لِّلْعَبِيدِ
for His slaves.
That is due to what have put forth their hands and certainly the One is not with unfairness for His slaves.
⦿
This is on account of that which your own hands have sent before (you to the judgment). Allah is no oppressor of (His) bondmen. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

That is because of what your hands have sent ahead, and because Allah is not tyrannical to His servants.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

١٨٣
ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَآ أَلَّا نُؤْمِنَ لِرَسُولٍ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَنَا بِقُرْبَانٍۢ تَأْكُلُهُ ٱلنَّارُ ۗ قُلْ قَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رُسُلٌۭ مِّن قَبْلِى بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ وَبِٱلَّذِى قُلْتُمْ فَلِمَ قَتَلْتُمُوهُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

(The same are) those who say: Lo! Allah hath charged us that we believe not in any messenger until he bring us an offering which fire (from heaven) shall devour. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Messengers came unto you before me with miracles, and with that (very miracle) which ye describe. Why then did ye slay them? (Answer that) if ye are truthful! - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Tell those who say, [Allah has pledged us not to believe in any apostle unless he brings us an offering consumed by fire,] [Apostles before me certainly did bring you manifest signs and what you speak of. Then why did you kill them, if you are truthful?] - Qarai, Ali Quli

(Muhammad), say to those who say, 'God has commanded us not to believe any Messenger unless he offers a burnt offering,' (Muhammad) say, [Messengers came to you before me with certain miracles and with that which you had asked for (burnt offering). Why, then, did you slay them if you were true in your claim?] - Sarwar, Muhammad

(Those are they) who said: Surely Allah has enjoined us that we should not believe in any apostle until he brings us an offering which the fire consumes. Say: Indeed, there came to you apostles before me with clear arguments and with that which you demand; why then did you kill them if you are truthful? - Shakir, Habib

To those who say, [God has commanded us not to believe in any messenger unless he brings down to us an offering to be consumed by fire,] say, [Messengers before me have come to you with clear signs, including the one you demand. جو لوگ یہ کہتے ہیں کہ اللہ نے ہم سے عہد لیا ہے کہ ہم اس وقت تک کسی رسول پر ایمان نہ لائیں جب تک وہ ایسی قربانی پیش نہ کرے جسے آسمانی آگ کھا جائے تو ان سے کہہ دیجئے کہ مجھ سے پہلے بہت سے رسول معجزات اور تمہاری فرمائش کے مطابق صداقت کی نشانی لے آئے پھر تم نے انہیں کیوں قتل کردیا اگر تم اپنی بات میں سچےّ ہو - Jawadi, Zeeshan

جو لوگ کہتے ہیں ——اللہ نے ہم کو ہدایت کر دی ہے کہ ہم کسی کو رسول تسلیم نہ کریں جب تک وہ ہمارے سامنے ایسی قربانی نہ کرے جسے (غیب سے آکر) آگ کھا لے ——، اُن سے کہو، ——تمہارے پاس مجھ سے پہلے بہت سے رسول آ چکے ہیں جو بہت سی روشن نشانیاں لائے تھے اور وہ نشانی بھی لائے تھے جس کا تم ذکر کرتے ہو، پھر اگر (ایمان لانے کے لیے یہ شرط پیش کرنے میں) تم سچے ہو تو اُن رسولوں کو تم نے کیوں قتل کیا؟—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

وہ جو کہتے ہیں اللہ نے ہم سے اقرار کر لیا ہے کہ ہم کسی رسول پر ایمان نہ لائیں جب تک ایسی قربانی کا حکم نہ لائے جس آ گ کھائے تم فرمادو مجھ سے پہلے بہت رسول تمہارے پاس کھلی نشانیاں اور یہ حکم لے کر آئے جو تم کہتے ہو پھر تم نے انہیں کیوں شہید کیا اگر سچے ہو - Ahmed Raza

یہ وہ لوگ ہیں جو کہتے ہیں کہ اللہ نے ہم سے عہد و اقرار لیا ہے کہ ہم اس وقت تک کسی رسول پر ایمان نہ لائیں۔ جب تک وہ ہمارے سامنے ایسی قربانی پیش نہ کرے جسے (غیبی) آگ آکر کھا لے۔ ان سے کہیئے۔ مجھ سے پہلے تمہارے پاس بہت سے رسول(ص) روشن نشانیاں (معجزے) لے کر اور وہ (نشانی) بھی جو تم کہتے ہو لے کر آئے۔ تو اگر تم (اس شرط میں) سچے ہو تو تم نے ان کو کیوں قتل کیا تھا؟ ۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

And if they deny thee, even so did they deny messengers who were before thee, who came with miracles and with the Psalms and with the Scripture giving light. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

But if they deny you, [other] apostles have been denied before you, who came with manifest signs, holy writs, and an illuminating scripture. - Qarai, Ali Quli

If they reject you, they had certainly rejected the Messengers who lived before you and who showed them authoritative evidence, smaller Books, and the Book of enlightenment. - Sarwar, Muhammad

كُلُّ
Every
نَفْسٍۢ
psyche
ذَآئِقَةُ
will taste
ٱلْمَوْتِ
the death;
ۗ
وَإِنَّمَا
and indeed it is that
تُوَفَّوْنَ
you will be paid fully
أُجُورَكُمْ
your rewards
يَوْمَ
on day of
ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ
the establishment;
ۖ
فَمَن
then who is
زُحْزِحَ
moved
عَنِ
away from
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire
وَأُدْخِلَ
and is entered into
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
the garden
فَقَدْ
thus surely
فَازَ
has won;
ۗ
وَمَا
and not is
ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ
the life of
ٱلدُّنْيَآ
the World
إِلَّا
except
مَتَٰعُ
a passtime of
ٱلْغُرُورِ
the vanity.
٣
١٨٥
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۖ فَمَن زُحْزِحَ عَنِ ٱلنَّارِ وَأُدْخِلَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَ ۗ وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا مَتَٰعُ ٱلْغُرُورِ Every psyche will taste the death; and indeed it is that you will be paid fully your rewards on day of the establishment; then who is moved away from the fire and is entered into the garden thus surely has won; and not is the life of the World except a passtime of the vanity.

Every soul will taste of death. And ye will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that which ye have fairly earned. Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter paradise, he indeed is triumphant. The life of this world is but comfort of illusion. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Every soul shall taste death, and you will indeed be paid your full rewards on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever is delivered from the Fire and admitted to paradise has certainly succeeded. The life of this world is nothing but the wares of delusion. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Every soul is destined to experience the agony of death. You (Muslims) will receive the recompense for your deeds on the Day of Judgment. To be saved from the fire and admitted to Paradise is certainly a great triumph. The worldly life is no more than a deceitful possession. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Every soul shall taste of death, and you shall only be paid fully your reward on the resurrection day; then whoever is removed far away from the fire and is made to enter the garden he indeed has attained the object; and the life of this world is nothing but a provision of vanities. - Shakir, Habib

ہر جاندار نے (انجام کار) موت کا مزہ چکھنا ہے۔ اور تم سب کو قیامت کے دن تمہیں (اپنے اعمال کا) پورا پورا بدلہ دیا جائے گا پس جو شخص (اس دن) جہنم سے بچا لیا گیا۔ اور جنت میں داخل کیا گیا وہ کامیاب ہوگیا۔ اور دنیا کی زندگی تو محض دھوکے کا سامان اور سرمایہ فریب ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

لَتُبْلَوُنَّ
You shall be tested
فِىٓ
in
أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ
your wealth,
وَأَنفُسِكُمْ
and yourself,
وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ
and you will hear
مِنَ
from
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
أُوتُوا۟
were given
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book
مِن
from
قَبْلِكُمْ
before you,
وَمِنَ
and from
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
أَشْرَكُوٓا۟
make partners (with Allah's Law)
أَذًۭى
hurtful things
كَثِيرًۭا
a many,
ۚ
وَإِن
and if
تَصْبِرُوا۟
you endure
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
and are strong,
فَإِنَّ
then it is, that
ذَٰلِكَ
that is
مِنْ
from
عَزْمِ
resolute
ٱلْأُمُورِ
affairs.
٣
١٨٦
لَتُبْلَوُنَّ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ أَذًۭى كَثِيرًۭا ۚ وَإِن تَصْبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ You shall be tested in your wealth, and yourself, and you will hear from the ones who were given the Book from before you, and from the ones who make partners (with Allah's Law) hurtful things a many, and if you endure and are strong, then it is, that that is from resolute affairs.

Assuredly ye will be tried in your property and in your persons, and ye will hear much wrong from those who were given the Scripture before you, and from the idolaters. But if ye persevere and ward off (evil), then that is of the steadfast heart of things. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

You will surely be tested in your possessions and your souls, and you will surely hear much affront from those who were given the Book before you and from the polytheists; but if you are patient and Godwary, that is indeed the steadiest of courses. - Qarai, Ali Quli

And when
أَخَذَ
took
ٱللَّهُ
the One
مِيثَٰقَ
ratification of
ٱلَّذِينَ
the ones who
أُوتُوا۟
were given
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book
لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥ
to make clear that which We make clear
لِلنَّاسِ
for the people
وَلَا
and do not
تَكْتُمُونَهُۥ
conceal it,
فَنَبَذُوهُ
they threw it
وَرَآءَ
behind
ظُهُورِهِمْ
their backs,
وَٱشْتَرَوْا۟
and exchanged
بِهِۦ
with it
ثَمَنًۭا
a rate
قَلِيلًۭا
that is little;
ۖ
فَبِئْسَ
thus evil is
مَا
what
يَشْتَرُونَ
they exchange.
٣
١٨٧
وَإِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَٰقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُۥ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًۭا قَلِيلًۭا ۖ فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ And when took the One ratification of the ones who were given the Book to make clear that which We make clear for the people and do not conceal it, they threw it behind their backs, and exchanged with it a rate that is little; thus evil is what they exchange.

And (remember) when Allah laid a charge on those who had received the Scripture (He said): Ye are to expound it to mankind and not to hide it. But they flung it behind their backs and bought thereby a little gain. Verily evil is that which they have gained thereby. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

When Allah made a covenant with those who were given the Book: [You shall explain it for the people, and you shall not conceal it,] they cast it behind their backs and sold it for a paltry gain. How evil is what they buy! - Qarai, Ali Quli

When God made a covenant with the People of the Book saying, [Tell the people about it (Muhammad's prophesy) without hiding any part, therefrom, they threw it behind their backs and sold it for a very small price. What a miserable bargain! - Sarwar, Muhammad

اور یاد کرو جب اللہ نے عہد لیا ان سے جنہیں کتاب عطا فرمائی کہ تم ضرور اسے لوگوں سے بیان کردینا اور نہ چھپانا تو انہوں نے اسے اپنی پیٹھ کے پیچھے پھینک دیا اور اس کے بدلے ذلیل دام حاصل کیے تو کتنی بری خریداری ہے - Ahmed Raza

Think not that those who exult in what they have given, and love to be praised for what they have not done - Think not, they are in safety from the doom. A painful doom is theirs. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

And belongs to the One
مُلْكُ

ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the Earth,
ۗ
وَٱللَّهُ
and the One is
عَلَىٰ
upon
كُلِّ
every
شَىْءٍۢ
thing
قَدِيرٌ
assigner of value.
And belongs to the One ownership of the heavens and the Earth, and the One is upon every thing assigner of value.

Unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth. Allah is Able to do all things. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

ٱلَّيْلِ
the dark
وَٱلنَّهَارِ
and the day-burst,
لَـَٔايَٰتٍۢ
are for sure signs
لِّأُو۟لِى
for the foremost of
ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ
the rational ones.

١٩٠
إِنَّ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱخْتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لَـَٔايَٰتٍۢ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَٰبِ Assuredly in creation of the atmospheres and the land, and the succession of the dark and the day-burst, are for sure signs for the foremost of the rational ones.

Lo! In the creation of the heavens and the earth and (in) the difference of night and day are tokens (of His Sovereignty) for men of understanding, - Pickthall, Marmaduke

ٱلَّذِينَ
The ones who
يَذْكُرُونَ
remember
ٱللَّهَ
the One
قِيَٰمًۭا
standing,
وَقُعُودًۭا
and sitting,
وَعَلَىٰ
and upon
جُنُوبِهِمْ
their sides,
وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ
and they reflect
فِى
in
خَلْقِ
creation of
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the atmospheres
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the land,
رَبَّنَا
[Our Nourisher!
مَا
Not
خَلَقْتَ
have You created
هَٰذَا
this
بَٰطِلًۭا
as pointless
سُبْحَٰنَكَ
— all glory to You —
فَقِنَا
thus save us from
عَذَابَ
punishment of
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire.]

١٩١
ٱلَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ قِيَٰمًۭا وَقُعُودًۭا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَٰطِلًۭا سُبْحَٰنَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ The ones who remember the One standing, and sitting, and upon their sides, and they reflect in creation of the atmospheres and the land, [Our Nourisher! Not have You created this as pointless — all glory to You — thus save us from punishment of the fire.]

Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord! Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Preserve us from the doom of Fire. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

جو اٹھتے، بیٹھتے اور لیٹتے، ہر حال میں خدا کو یاد کرتے ہیں اور آسمان و زمین کی ساخت میں غور و فکر کرتے ہیں (وہ بے اختیار بو ل اٹھتے ہیں) ——پروردگار! یہ سب کچھ تو نے فضول اور بے مقصد نہیں بنایا ہے، تو پاک ہے اس سے کہ عبث کام کرے پس اے رب! ہمیں دوزخ کے عذاب سے بچا لے - Maududi, Abul A'ala
