١٤٤

Muhammad is but a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels? He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah, and Allah will reward the thankful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Muhammad is but an apostle; [other] apostles have passed before him. If he dies or is slain, will you turn back on your heels? Anyone who turns back on his heels, will not harm Allah in the least, and soon Allah will reward the grateful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

محمدؐ اس کے سوا کچھ نہیں کہ بس ایک رسول ہیں، اُن سے پہلے اور رسول بھی گزر چکے ہیں، پھر کیا اگر وہ مر جائیں یا قتل کر دیے جائیں تو تم لوگ الٹے پاؤں پھر جاؤ گے؟ یاد رکھو! جو الٹا پھرے گا وہ اللہ کا کچھ نقصان نہ کرے گا، البتہ جو اللہ کے شکر گزار بندے بن کر رہیں گے انہیں وہ اس کی جزا دے گا - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور حضرت محمد (ص) نہیں ہیں مگر پیغمبر جن سے پہلے تمام پیغمبر گزر چکے ہیں تو کیا اگر وہ وفات پا جائیں یا قتل کر دیئے جائیں تو تم الٹے پاؤں (کفر کی طرف) پلٹ جاؤگے اور جو کوئی الٹے پاؤں پھرے گا تو وہ ہرگز اللہ تعالیٰ کو کوئی نقصان نہیں پہنچائے گا اور عنقریب خدا شکرگزار بندوں کو جزا دے گا۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

No soul can ever die except by Allah's leave and at a term appointed. Whoso desireth the reward of the world, We bestow on him thereof; and whoso desireth the reward of the Hereafter, We bestow on him thereof. We shall reward the thankful. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

کوئی ذی روح اللہ کے اذن کے بغیر نہیں مرسکتا موت کا وقت تو لکھا ہوا ہے جو شخص ثواب دنیا کے ارادہ سے کام کرے گا اس کو ہم دنیا ہی میں سے دیں گے، اور جو ثواب آخرت کے ارادہ سے کام کرے گا وہ آخرت کا ثواب پائے گا اور شکر کرنے والوں کو ہم اُن کی جزا ضرور عطا کریں گے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

وَكَأَيِّن مِّن نَّبِىٍّۢ قَٰتَلَ مَعَهُۥ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌۭ فَمَا وَهَنُوا۟ لِمَآ أَصَابَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا ضَعُفُوا۟ وَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

And with how many a prophet have there been a number of devoted men who fought (beside him). They quailed not for aught that befell them in the way of Allah, nor did they weaken, nor were they brought low. Allah loveth the steadfast. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

How many a prophet there has been with whom a multitude of godly men fought. They did not falter for what befell them in the way of Allah, neither did they weaken, nor did they abase themselves; and Allah loves the steadfast. - Qarai, Ali Quli

Many godly people fought to help the Prophets in the cause of God. They did not lose courage, show weakness, or give in when facing hardships in their fight for the cause of God. God loves those who have patience. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And how many a prophet has fought with whom were many worshippers of the Lord; so they did not become weak-hearted on account of what befell them in Allah's way, nor did they weaken, nor did they abase themselves; and Allah loves the patient. - Shakir, Habib

اور بہت سے ایسے نبی گزر چکے ہیں جن کے ساتھ بہت سے اللہ والوں نے اس شان سے جہاد کیا ہے کہ راسِ خدا میں پڑنے والی مصیبتوں سے نہ کمزور ہوئے اور نہ بزدلی کا اظہار کیا اور نہ دشمن کے سامنے ذلّت کا مظاہرہ کیا اور اللہ صبر کرنے والوں ہی کو دوست رکھتا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اِس سے پہلے کتنے ہی نبی ایسے گزر چکے ہیں جن کے ساتھ مل کر بہت سے خدا پرستوں نے جنگ کی اللہ کی راہ میں جو مصیبتیں اُن پر پڑیں ان سے وہ دل شکستہ نہیں ہوئے، انہوں نے کمزوری نہیں دکھائی، وہ (باطل کے آگے) سرنگوں نہیں ہوئے ایسے ہی صابروں کو اللہ پسند کرتا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور کتنے ہی انبیاء نے جہاد کیا ان کے ساتھ بہت خدا والے تھے، تو نہ سست پڑے ان مصیبتوں سے جو اللہ کی راہ میں انہیں پہنچیں اور نہ کمزور ہوئے اور نہ دبے اور صبر والے اللہ کو محبوب ہیں، - Ahmed Raza

اور بہت سے ایسے نبی (گزر چکے) ہیں جن کے ساتھ مل کر بہت سے اللہ والوں نے جنگ کی تو اللہ کی راہ میں ان پر جو مصیبتیں پڑیں ان پر وہ نہ پست ہمت ہوئے اور نہ انہوں نے کمزوری دکھائی اور نہ (دشمن کے سامنے) سرنگوں ہوئے اور اللہ صبر و تحمل رکھنے والے (ثابت قدموں) سے محبت رکھتا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

وَمَا كَانَ قَوْلَهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِىٓ أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Their cry was only that they said: Our Lord! forgive us for our sins and wasted efforts, make our foothold sure, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

All that they said was, [Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our affairs, make our feet steady, and help us against the faithless lot.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

The only words that they spoke were, [Lord, forgive our sins and our excess in our dealings, make us steadfast (in the fight for Your cause), and grant us victory over the unbelievers.] - Sarwar, Muhammad

And their saying was no other than that they said: Our Lord! forgive us our faults and our extravagance in our affair and make firm our feet and help us against the unbelieving people. - Shakir, Habib

ان کا قول صرف یہی تھا کہ خدایا ہمارے گناہوں کو بخش دے- ہمارے امور میں زیادتیوں کو معاف فرما- ہمارے قدموں کو ثبات عطا فرما اور کافروں کے مقابلہ میں ہماری مدد فرما - Jawadi, Zeeshan

ان کی دعا بس یہ تھی کہ، ——اے ہمارے رب! ہماری غلطیوں اور کوتاہیوں سے درگزر فرما، ہمارے کام میں تیرے حدود سے جو کچھ تجاوز ہو گیا ہو اُسے معاف کر دے، ہمارے قدم جما دے اور کافروں کے مقابلہ میں ہماری مدد کر—— - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور وہ کچھ بھی نہ کہتے تھے سوا اس دعا کے کہ اے ہمارے رب بخش دے ہمارے گناہ اور جو زیادتیاں ہم نے اپنے کام کیں اور ہمارے قدم جما دے اور ہمیں ان کافر لوگوں پر مدد دے - Ahmed Raza

So Allah gave them the reward of the world and the good reward of the Hereafter. Allah loveth those whose deeds are good. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تُطِيعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَرُدُّوكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَٰبِكُمْ فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَٰسِرِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]
⦿
O ye who believe! if ye obey those who disbelieve, they will make you turn back on your heels, and ye turn back as losers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

سَنُلْقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعْبَ بِمَآ أَشْرَكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَٰنًۭا ۖ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ ۚ وَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

We shall cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve because they ascribe unto Allah partners, for which no warrant hath been revealed. Their habitation is the Fire, and hapless the abode of the wrong-doers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

We shall cast terror into the hearts of the faithless because of their ascribing partners to Allah, for which He has not sent down any authority, and their refuge shall be the Fire, and evil is the [final] abode of the wrongdoers. - Qarai, Ali Quli

عنقریب وہ وقت آنے والا ہے جب ہم منکرین حق کے دلوں میں رعب بٹھا دیں گے، اس لیے کہ اُنہوں نے اللہ کے ساتھ اُن کو خدائی میں شریک ٹھیرایا ہے جن کے شریک ہونے پر اللہ نے کوئی سند نازل نہیں کی اُن کا آخری ٹھکانا جہنم ہے اور بہت ہی بری ہے وہ قیام گاہ جو اُن ظالموں کو نصیب ہوگی - Maududi, Abul A'ala

کوئی دم جاتا ہے کہ ہم کافروں کے دلوں میں رعب ڈالیں گے کہ انہوں نے اللہ کا شریک ٹھہرایا جس پر اس نے کوئی سمجھ نہ اتاری اور ان کا ٹھکانا دوزخ ہے، اور کیا برا ٹھکانا ناانصافوں کا، - Ahmed Raza

وَلَقَدْ صَدَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَهُۥٓ إِذْ تَحُسُّونَهُم بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَشِلْتُمْ وَتَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ وَعَصَيْتُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَرَىٰكُم مَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ مِنكُم مَّن يُرِيدُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرِيدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ ثُمَّ صَرَفَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ لِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْ ۖ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا عَنكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Allah verily made good His promise unto you when ye routed them by His leave, until (the moment) when your courage failed you, and ye disagreed about the order and ye disobeyed, after He had shown you that for which ye long. Some of you desired the world, and some of you desired the Hereafter. Therefore He made you flee from them, that He might try you. Yet now He hath forgiven you. Allah is a Lord of Kindness to believers. - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Allah certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were slaying them with His leave, until you lost courage, disputed about the matter, and disobeyed after He showed you what you loved. Some among you desire this world, and some among you desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them so that He might test you. Certainly He has excused you, for Allah is gracious to the faithful. - Qarai, Ali Quli

God certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were fighting the unbelievers, by His permission. Even after We showed you what you wanted, you began to lose courage, started quarreling with each other, and disobeyed God's orders. Some of you want worldly gains and others of you want rewards in the hereafter. Then He let you face defeat in order to test you. However, He forgave you. God is Gracious to the believers. - Sarwar, Muhammad

And certainly Allah made good to you His promise when you slew them by His permission, until when you became weak-hearted and disputed about the affair and disobeyed after He had shown you that which you loved; of you were some who desired this world and of you were some who desired the hereafter; then He turned you away from them that He might try you; and He has certainly pardoned you, and Allah is Gracious to the believers. - Shakir, Habib

And God made good His promise to you when by His leave you were about to destroy your foes, but then your courage failed you and you disagreed among yourselves [concerning the Prophet's direction] and disobeyed it, after He had brought you within sight of what you wished for, some of you desired the goods of this world and some of you desired the Hereafter, then in order that He might put you to the test, He prevented you from defeating your foes. But now He has pardoned you: God is most gracious to the believers. - Wahiduddin Khan

خدا نے اپنا وعدہ اس وقت پورا کردیا جب تم اس کے حکم سے کفاّر کو قتل کررہے تھے یہاں تک کہ تم نے کمزوری کا مظاہرہ کیا اور آپس میں جھگڑا کرنے لگے اور اس وقت خدا کی نافرمانی کی جب اس نے تمہاری محبوب شے کو دکھلا دیا تھا تم میں کچھ دنیا کے طلب گار تھے اور کچھ آخرت کے- اس کے بعد تم کو ان کفاّر کی طرف سے پھیر دیا تاکہ تمہارا امتحان لیا جائے اور پھر اس نے تمہیں معاف بھی کردیا کہ وہ صاحبانِ ایمان پر بڑا فضل و کرم کرنے والا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اللہ نے (تائید و نصرت کا) جو وعدہ تم سے کیا تھا وہ تو اُس نے پورا کر دیا ابتدا میں اُس کے حکم سے تم ہی اُن کو قتل کر رہے تھے مگر جب تم نے کمزوری دکھائی اور اپنے کام میں باہم اختلاف کیا، اور جونہی کہ وہ چیز اللہ نے تمہیں دکھائی جس کی محبت میں تم گرفتار تھے (یعنی مال غنیمت) تم اپنے سردار کے حکم کی خلاف ورزی کر بیٹھے اس لیے کہ تم میں سے کچھ لوگ دنیا کے طالب تھے اور کچھ آخرت کی خواہش رکھتے تھے تب اللہ نے تمہیں کافروں کے مقابلہ میں پسپا کر دیا تاکہ تمہاری آزمائش کرے اور حق یہ ہے کہ اللہ نے پھر بھی تمہیں معاف ہی کر دیا کیونکہ مومنوں پر اللہ بڑی نظر عنایت رکھتا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

اور بیشک اللہ نے تمہیں سچ کر دکھایا اپنا وعدہ جب کہ تم اس کے حکم سے کافروں کو قتل کرتے تھے یہاں تک کہ جب تم نے بزدلی کی اور حکم میں جھگڑا ڈالا اور نافرمانی کی بعد اس کے کہ اللہ تمہیں دکھا چکا تمہاری خوشی کی بات تم میں کوئی دنیا چاہتا تھا اور تم میں کوئی آخرت چاہتا تھا پھر تمہارا منہ ان سے پھیردیا کہ تمہیں آزمائے اور بیشک اس نے تمہیں معاف کردیا، اور اللہ مسلمانوں پر فضل کرتا ہے، - Ahmed Raza

خدا نے (جنگ احد میں) اپنا وعدہ (نصرت) اس وقت سچا کر دکھایا جب تم اس کے حکم سے ان (کافروں) کا قلع قمع کر رہے تھے یہاں تک کہ جب تم نے کمزوری دکھائی تو تم نے حکم عدولی کی۔ (یہ اس لئے کہ) تم میں کچھ دنیا کے طلب گار تھے اور کچھ آخرت کے طلبگار تھے پھر اس نے تمہیں ان کے مقابلے میں پسپا کر دیا تاکہ تمہارے ایمان و اخلاص کی آزمائش کرے۔ اور (پھر بھی) تمہیں معاف کر دیا۔ اور اللہ اہل ایمان پر بڑا فضل کرنے والا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad

When ye climbed (the hill) and paid no heed to anyone, while the messenger, in your rear, was calling you (to fight). Therefor He rewarded you grief for (his) grief, that (He might teach) you not to sorrow either for that which ye missed or for that which befell you. When you were fleeing without paying any attention to anyone, while the Apostle was calling you from your rear, He requited you with grief upon grief, so that you may not grieve for what you lose nor for what befalls you, and Allah is well aware of what you do. - Qarai, Ali Quli

اس وقت کو یاد کرو جب تم بلندی پر جارہے تھے اور مڑ کر کسی کو دیکھتے بھی نہ تھے جب کہ رسول پیچھے کھڑے تمہیں آواز دے رہے تھے جس کے نتیجہ میں خدا نے تمہیں غم کے بدلے غم دیا تاکہ نہ اس پر رنجیدہ ہو جو چیز ہاتھ سے نکل گئی اور نہ اس مصیبت پر جو نازل ہوگئی ہے اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے خوب باخبر ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

یاد کرو جب تم بھاگے چلے جا رہے تھے، کسی کی طرف پلٹ کر دیکھنے تک کا ہوش تمہیں نہ تھا، اور رسولؐ تمہارے پیچھے تم کو پکار رہا تھا اُس وقت تمہاری اس روش کا بدلہ اللہ نے تمہیں یہ دیا کہ تم کو رنج پر رنج دیے تاکہ آئندہ کے لیے تمہیں یہ سبق ملے کہ جو کچھ تمہارے ہاتھ سے جائے یا جو مصیبت تم پر نازل ہو اس پر ملول نہ ہو اللہ تمہارے سب اعمال سے باخبر ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

جب تم منہ اٹھائے چلے جاتے تھے اور پیٹھ پھیر کر کسی کو نہ دیکھتے اور دوسری جماعت میں ہمارے رسول تمہیں پکار رہے تھے تو تمہیں غم کا بدلہ غم دیا اور معافی اس لئے سنائی کہ جو ہاتھ سے گیا اور جو افتاد پڑی اس کا رنج نہ کرو اور اللہ کوتمہارے کاموں کی خبر ہے، - Ahmed Raza

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةًۭ نُّعَاسًۭا يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةًۭ مِّنكُمْ ۖ وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ مِن شَىْءٍۢ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُۥ لِلَّهِ ۗ يُخْفُونَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ ۖ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌۭ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَٰهُنَا ۗ قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖ وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated] [untranslated]

Then, after grief, He sent down security for you. As slumber did it overcome a party of you, while (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah. They hide within themselves (a thought) which they reveal not unto thee, saying: Had we had any part in the cause we should not have been slain here. Say: Even though ye had been in your houses, those appointed to be slain would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie. (All this hath been) in order that Allah might try what is in your breasts and prove what is in your hearts. Allah is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men). - Pickthall, Marmaduke

Then He sent down to you safety after grief—a drowsiness that came over a group of you—while another group, anxious only about themselves, entertained false notions about Allah, notions of [pagan] ignorance. They say, [Do we have any role in the matter?] Say, [Indeed the matter belongs totally to Allah.] They hide in their hearts what they do not disclose to you. They say, [Had we any role in the matter, we would not have been slain here.] Say, [Even if you had remained in your houses, those destined to be slain would have set out toward the places where they were laid to rest, so that Allah may test what is in your breasts, and that He may purge what is in your hearts, and Allah knows well what is in the breasts.] - Qarai, Ali Quli

After the sorrows you suffered, He sent you relief and some of you were encompassed by slumber. To some others of you, your lives were so important that you, like ignorant people, began thinking suspiciously of God saying, [Do we have any say in the matter?] (Muhammad), tell them, [All matters belong to God.] They try to hide within their souls what they do not reveal to you. They say, [Had we had the matter in our hands, we would not have been killed there.] Tell them, [Even if you had stayed in your own homes, your sworn enemies could have attacked you and slain you while you were in your beds. God wanted to test you and purge what existed in your hearts. - Sarwar, Muhammad

Then after sorrow He sent down security upon you, a calm coming upon a party of you, and (there was) another party whom their own souls had rendered anxious; they entertained about Allah thoughts of ignorance quite unjustly, saying: We have no hand in the affair. Say: Surely the affair is wholly (in the hands) of Allah. They conceal within their souls what they would not reveal to you. They say: Had we any hand in the affair, we would not have been slain here. Say: Had you remained in your houses, those for whom slaughter was ordained would certainly have gone forth to the places where they would be slain, and that Allah might test what was in your breasts and that He might purge what was in your hearts; and Allah knows what is in the breasts. - Shakir, Habib

Then, after sorrow He sent down peace [of mind] upon you in the shape of drowsiness that overcame some of you, but there were others who were anxious only about themselves. They entertained false notions about God, like the notions of the days of ignorance. [Have we any say in the matter?] they asked. Say to them, [All is in the hands of God.] They conceal in their hearts what they would not reveal to you. They say, [Had we had any say in the matter, none of us would have been killed here.] Say to them, [Had you stayed in your homes, those whose death had been decreed would nevertheless have gone forth to the places where they were destined to die.] And all this befell you so that God might test what is in your minds. And in order to purify what was in your hearts. For God is aware of your innermost thoughts. - Wahiduddin Khan

اس کے بعد خدا نے ایک گروہ پرپُر سکون نیند طاری کردی اور ایک کو نیند بھی نہ آئی کہ اسے صرف اپنی جان کی فکر تھی اور ان کے ذہن میں خلاف حق جاہلیت جیسے خیالات تھے اور وہ یہ کہہ رہے تھے کہ جنگ کے معاملات میں ہمارا کیا اختیار ہے پیغمبر آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اختیار صرف خدا کا ہے- یہ اپنے دل میں وہ باتیں چھپائے ہوئے ہیں جن کا آپ سے اظہار نہیں کرتے اور کہتے ہیں کہ اگر اختیار ہمارے ہاتھ میں ہوتا تو ہم یہاں نہ مارے جاتے تو آپ کہہ دیجئے کہ اگر تم گھروں میں بھی رہ جاتے تو جن کے لئے شہادت لکھ دی گئی ہے وہ اپنے مقتل تک بہرحال جاتے اور خدا تمہارے دلوں کے حال کو آزمانا چاہتا ہے اور تمہارے ضمیر کی حقیقت کو واضح کرنا چاہتا ہے اور وہ خود ہر دل کا حال جانتا ہے - Jawadi, Zeeshan

اس غم کے بعد پھر اللہ نے تم میں سے کچھ لوگوں پر ایسی اطمینان کی سی حالت طاری کر دی کہ وہ اونگھنے لگے مگر ایک دوسرا گروہ، جس کے لیے ساری اہمیت بس اپنے مفاد ہی کی تھی، اللہ کے متعلق طرح طرح کے جاہلانہ گمان کرنے لگا جو سراسر خلاف حق تھے یہ لوگ اب کہتے ہیں کہ، ——اس کام کے چلانے میں ہمارا بھی کوئی حصہ ہے؟—— ان سے کہو ——(کسی کا کوئی حصہ نہیں) اِس کام کے سارے اختیارات اللہ کے ہاتھ میں ہیں—— دراصل یہ لوگ اپنے دلوں میں جو بات چھپائے ہوئے ہیں اُسے تم پر ظاہر نہیں کرتے ان کا اصل مطلب یہ ہے کہ، ——اگر (قیادت کے) اختیارات میں ہمارا کچھ حصہ ہوتا تو یہاں ہم نہ مارے جاتے—— ان سے کہہ دو کہ، ——اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں بھی ہوتے تو جن لوگوں کی موت لکھی ہوئی تھی وہ خود اپنی قتل گاہوں کی طرف نکل آتے—— اور یہ معاملہ جو پیش آیا، یہ تو اس لیے تھا کہ جو کچھ تمہارے سینوں میں پوشیدہ ہے اللہ اُسے آزما لے اور جو کھوٹ تمہارے دلوں میں ہے اُسے چھانٹ دے، اللہ دلوں کا حال خوب جانتا ہے - Maududi, Abul A'ala

پھر تم پر غم کے بعد چین کی نیند اتاری کہ تمہاری ایک جماعت کو گھیرے تھی اور ایک گروہ کو اپنی جان کی پڑی تھی اللہ پر بے جا گمان کرتے تھے جاہلیت کے سے گمان، کہتے کیا اس کام میں کچھ ہمارا بھی اختیار ہے تم فرمادو کہ اختیار تو سارا اللہ کا ہے اپنے دلوں میں چھپاتے ہیں جو تم پر ظاہر نہیں کرتے کہتے ہیں، ہمارا کچھ بس ہوتا تو ہم یہاں نہ مارے جاتے، تم فرمادو کہ اگر تم اپنے گھروں میں ہوتے جب بھی جن کا مارا جانا لکھا جاچکا تھا اپنی قتل گاہوں تک نکل آتے اور اس لئے کہ اللہ تمہارے سینوں کی بات آزمائے اور جو کچھ تمہارے دلو ں میں ہے اسے کھول دے اور اللہ دلوں کی بات جانتا ہے - Ahmed Raza

پھر اس (خدا) نے رنج و غم کے بعد نیند کی صورت میں تم پر سکون و اطمینان اتارا۔ جو تم میں سے ایک گروہ پر طاری ہوگئی۔ اور ایک گروہ ایسا تھا کہ جسے صرف اپنی جانوں کی فکر تھی وہ اللہ کے ساتھ ناحق زمانۂ جاہلیت والے گمان کر رہا تھا وہ کہہ رہا تھا۔ کہ آیا اس معاملہ میں ہمیں بھی کچھ اختیار ہے؟ کہہ دیجیے۔ ہر امر کا اختیار صرف اللہ کو ہے۔ یہ لوگ اپنے دلوں میں ایسی باتیں چھپائے ہوئے ہیں۔ جن کا آپ سے اظہار نہیں کرتے کہتے ہیں کہ اگر ہمارے ہاتھ میں بھی کچھ اختیار ہوتا تو ہم یہاں مارے نہ جاتے۔ کہہ دیجیے! اگر تم لوگ اپنے گھروں میں بھی ہوتے تو بھی جن کے لئے قتل ہونا لکھا جا چکا تھا وہ ضرور اپنے مقتل کی طرف نکل کر جاتے (یہ سب کچھ اس لئے ہوا) کہ خدا اسے آزمائے جو کچھ تمہارے سینوں کے اندر ہے اور نکھار کے سامنے لائے اس (کھوٹ) کو جو تمہارے دلوں میں ہے اور اللہ سینوں کے اندر کی باتوں کا خوب جاننے والا ہے۔ - Najafi, Muhammad
