وَأَنزَلْنَا

بِقَدَرٍۢ

فَأَسْكَنَّٰهُ

وَإِنَّا

عَلَىٰ

ذَهَابٍۭ

بِهِۦ

[untranslated]

لَقَٰدِرُونَ

٢٣

١٨

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍۢ فَأَسْكَنَّٰهُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦ لَقَٰدِرُونَ

And we send down from the sky water in measure, and We give it lodging in the earth, and lo! We are Able to withdraw it.

فَأَنشَأْنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍۢ مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢ وَأَعْنَٰبٍۢ لَّكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌۭ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Then We produce for you therewith gardens of date-palms and grapes, wherein is much fruit for you and whereof ye eat;

Then with it We produced for you gardens of date palms and vines. There are abundant fruits in them for you, and you eat from them,

We have established for you gardens of palm trees and vineyards with this water with many fruits for you to consume.

Then We cause to grow thereby gardens of palm trees and grapes for you; you have in them many fruits and from them do you eat;

And a tree that springeth forth from Mount Sinai that groweth oil and relish for the eaters.

وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌۭ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

And lo! in the cattle there is verily a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, and many uses have ye in them, and of them do ye eat;

اور حقیقت یہ ہے کہ تمہارے لیے مویشیوں میں بھی ایک سبق ہے ان کے پیٹوں میں جو کچھ ہے اسی میں سے ایک چیز ہم تمہیں پلاتے ہیں، اور تمہارے لیے ان میں بہت سے دوسرے دُوسرے فائدے بھی ہیں

اور بیشک تمہارے لیے چوپایوں میں سمجھنے کا مقام ہے، ہم تمہیں پلاتے ہیں اس میں سے جو ان کے پیٹ میں ہے اور تمہارے لیے ان میں بہت فائدے ہیں اور ان سے تمہاری خوراک ہے

وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ

And on them and on the ship ye are carried.

The Peace Providers [ 23:23 ] المؤمنون

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

نُوحًا

Nooh

إِلَىٰ

towards

قَوْمِهِۦ

his nation,

فَقَالَ

thus he said,

يَٰقَوْمِ

[O nation!

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Be in servitude of

ٱللَّهَ

the One,

مَا

not

لَكُم

for you is

مِّنْ

from

إِلَٰهٍ

an unchallenged master

غَيْرُهُۥٓ

except him;

أَفَلَا

then why do not

تَتَّقُونَ

you take heed?]

٢٣

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

And certainly We sent Nooh towards his nation, thus he said, [O nation! Be in servitude of the One, not for you is from an unchallenged master except him; then why do not you take heed?]

And We verily sent Noah unto his folk, and he said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil)?

Certainly We sent Noah to his people, and he said, [O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?]

We sent Noah to his people who said, [My people, worship God for He is your only Lord. Will you then not have fear of Him?]

And certainly We sent Nuh to his people, and he said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; will you not then guard (against evil)?

We sent Noah to his people, and he said, [My people, worship God; you have no other deity except Him. Will you not fear Him?]

اور ہم نے نوح کو ان کی قوم کی طرف بھیجا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ قوم والو خدا کی عبادت کرو کہ تمہارے لئے اس کے علاوہ کوئی خدا نہیں ہے تو تم اس سے کیوں نہیں ڈرتے ہو

ہم نے نوحؑ کو اس کی قوم کی طرف بھیجا اس نے کہا ——اے میری قوم کے لوگو، اللہ کی بندگی کرو، اس کے سوا تمہارے لیے کوئی اور معبود نہیں ہے، کیا تم ڈرتے نہیں ہو؟——

اور بیشک ہم نے نوح کو اس کی قوم کی طرف بھیجا تو اس نے کہا اے میری قوم اللہ کو پوجو اس کے سوا تمہارا کوئی خدا نہیں، تو کیا تمہیں ڈر نہیں

ءَابَآئِنَا

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَٰٓئِكَةًۭ مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

⦿

But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old.

But the elite of the faithless from among his people said, [This is just a human being like you, who seeks to dominate you. Had Allah wished, He would have sent down angels. We never heard of such a thing among our forefathers.

The chiefs of the unbelievers said to the others, [He is a mere mortal like you. He wants only to be superior to you. Had God wanted He would have sent the angels (instead of him). We have never heard from our fathers anything like what he says.

And the chiefs of those who disbelieved from among his people said: He is nothing but a mortal like yourselves who desires that he may have superiority over you, and if Allah had pleased, He could certainly have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our fathers of yore:

The leaders of his people who denied the truth, said, [He is only a human being like yourselves who wants to make himself superior to you. If God had wished, He would have sent down angels. We never heard about this from our forefathers.

ان کی قوم کے کافر رؤسائ نے کہا کہ یہ نوح تمہارے ہی جیسے انسان ہیں جو تم پر برتری حاصل کرنا چاہتے ہیں حالانکہ خدا چاہتا تو ملائکہ کو بھی نازل کرسکتا تھا. یہ تو ہم نے اپنے باپ دادا سے کبھی نہیں سنا ہے

اس کی قوم کے جن سرداروں نے ماننے سے انکار کیا وہ کہنے لگے کہ ——یہ شخص کچھ نہیں ہے مگر ایک بشر تم ہی جیسا اِس کی غرض یہ ہے کہ تم پر برتری حاصل کرے اللہ کو اگر بھیجنا ہوتا تو فرشتے بھیجتا یہ بات تو ہم نے کبھی اپنے باپ دادا کے وقتوں میں سنی ہی نہیں (کہ بشر رسول بن کر آئے)

تو اس کی قوم کے جن سرداروں نے کفر کیا بولے یہ تو نہیں مگر تم جیسا آدمی چاہتا ہے کہ تمہارا بڑا بنے اور اللہ چاہتا تو فرشتے اتارتا ہم نے تو یہ اگلے باپ داداؤں میں نہ سنا

تو ان کی قوم کے کافر سرداروں نے کہا کہ یہ (نوح(ع)) نہیں ہے مگر تم ہی جیسا ایک بشر (آدمی) ہے جو تم پر بڑائی حاصل کرنا چاہتا ہے اور اگر خدا (یہی) چاہتا تو وہ فرشتوں کو بھیجتا۔ ہم نے تو یہ بات اپنے پہلے باپ داداؤں سے نہین سنی۔

He is only a man in whom is a madness, so watch him for a while.

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

(Nooh) said, [Oh Rabb! Help me with what is being lied about.]

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّۢ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ

Then We inspired in him, saying: Make the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration. Then, when Our command cometh and the oven gusheth water, introduce therein of every (kind) two spouses, and thy household save him thereof against whom the Word hath already gone forth. And plead not with Me on behalf of those who have done wrong. Lo! they will be drowned.

ہم نے اس پر وحی کی کہ ——ہماری نگرانی میں اور ہماری وحی کے مطابق کشتی تیار کر پھر جب ہمارا حکم آ جائے اور تنور ابل پڑے تو ہر قسم کے جانوروں میں سے ایک ایک جوڑا لے کر اس میں سوار ہو جا، اور اپنے اہل و عیال کو بھی ساتھ لے سوائے اُن کے جن کے خلاف پہلے ہی فیصلہ ہو چکا ہے، اور ظالموں کے معاملہ میں مجھ سے کچھ نہ کہنا، یہ اب غرق ہونے والے ہیں

And when thou art on board the ship, thou and whoso is with thee, then say: Praise be to Allah Who hath saved us from the wrongdoing folk!

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
