قَالَ

وَيْلَكُمْ

لَا

تَفْتَرُوا۟

عَلَى

ٱللَّهِ

كَذِبًۭا

فَيُسْحِتَكُم

بِعَذَابٍۢ

وَقَدْ

خَابَ

مَنِ

[untranslated]

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

٦١

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍۢ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ

Moses said unto them: Woe unto you! Invent not a lie against Allah, lest He extirpate you by some punishment. He who lieth faileth miserably.

Moses said to them, [Woe to you! Do not fabricate lies against Allah, or He will obliterate you with a punishment. Whoever fabricates lies certainly fails.]

Moses told them, (the magicians) [Woe to you if you invent falsehood against God; you will be destroyed by the torment. Whoever invents falsehood against God will certainly be lost.]

Musa said to them: Woe to you! do not forge a lie against Allah, lest He destroy you by a punishment, and he who forges (a lie) indeed fails to attain (his desire).

موسٰی نے ان لوگوں سے کہا کہ تم پر وائے ہو اللہ پر افترا نہ کرو کہ وہ تم کو عذاب کے ذریعہ تباہ و برباد کردے گا اور جس نے اس پر بہتان باندھا وہ یقینا رسوا ہوا ہے

موسیٰؑ نے (عین موقع پر گروہ مقابل کو مخاطب کر کے) کہا ——شامت کے مارو، نہ جھُوٹی تہمتیں باندھو اللہ پر، ورنہ وہ ایک سخت عذاب سے تمہارا ستیاناس کر دے گا جھوٹ جس نے بھی گھڑا وہ نامراد ہوا——

ان سے موسیٰ نے کہا تمہیں خرابی ہو اللہ پر جھوٹ نہ باندھو کہ وہ تمہیں عذاب سے ہلاک کردے اور بیشک نامراد رہا جس نے جھوٹ باندھا

موسیٰ نے (فرعونیوں سے) کہا افسوس ہے تم پر۔ اللہ پر جھوٹا بہتان نہ باندھو۔ ورنہ وہ کسی عذاب سے تمہارا قلع قمع کر دے گا۔ اور جو کوئی بہتان باندھتا ہے وہ ناکام و نامراد ہوتا ہے۔

فَتَنَٰزَعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَهُم بَيْنَهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَىٰ

Then they debated one with another what they must do, and they kept their counsel secret.

اس پر وہ لوگ آپس میں جھگڑا کرنے لگے اور سرگوشیوں میں مصروف ہوگئے

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَٰذَٰنِ لَسَٰحِرَٰنِ يُرِيدَانِ أَن يُخْرِجَاكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِمَا وَيَذْهَبَا بِطَرِيقَتِكُمُ ٱلْمُثْلَىٰ

They said: Lo! these are two wizards who would drive you out from your country by their magic, and destroy your best traditions;

They said, [These two are indeed magicians who intend to expel you from your land with their magic, and to abolish your excellent tradition!

and said, [These two people are magicians. They want to expel you from your land through their magic and to destroy your own tradition.

They said: These are most surely two magicians who wish to turn you out from your land by their magic and to take away your best traditions.

They said, [Certainly they are both magicians who want to drive you out of your land by their magic, and destroy your best traditions.

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ یہ دونوں جادوگر ہیں جو تم لوگوں کو اپنے جادو کے زور پر تمہاری سرزمین سے نکال دینا چاہتے ہیں اور تمہارے اچھے خاصے طریقہ کو مٹا دینا چاہتے ہیں

آخر کار کچھ لوگو ں نے کہا کہ ——یہ دونوں تو محض جادوگر ہیں اِن کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ اپنے جادو کے زور سے تم کو تمہاری زمین سے بے دخل کر دیں اور تمہارے مثالی طریق زندگی کا خاتمہ کر دیں

بولے بیشک یہ دونوں ضرور جادوگر ہیں چاہتے ہیں کہ تمہیں تمہاری زمین زمین سے اپنے جادو کے زور سے نکال دیں اور تمہارا اچھا دین لے جائیں،

(آخرکار) انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ دونوں جادوگر ہیں جو چاہتے ہیں کہ اپنے جادو کے زور سے تمہیں تمہاری سرزمین سے نکال دیں اور تمہارے اعلیٰ و مثالی طریقہ کار کو مٹا دیں۔

فَأَجْمِعُوا۟ كَيْدَكُمْ ثُمَّ ٱئْتُوا۟ صَفًّۭا ۚ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ ٱلْيَوْمَ مَنِ ٱسْتَعْلَىٰ

So arrange your plan, and come in battle line. Whoso is uppermost this day will be indeed successful.

تو اپنا داؤ (فریب) پکا کرلو پھر پرا باندھ (صف باندھ) کر آ ؤ آج مراد کو پہنچا جو غالب رہا،

لہٰذا تم اپنی سب تدبیریں (داؤ پیچ) جمع کرو۔ اور پرا باندھ کر (مقابلہ میں) آجاؤ۔ یقیناً فلاح وہی پائے گا جو غالب آئے گا۔

They said: O Moses! Either throw first, or let us be the first to throw?

He said: Nay, do ye throw! Then lo! their cords and their staves, by their magic, appeared to him as though they ran.

He said, [No, you throw first.] Thereupon, behold, their ropes and staffs appeared to him by their magic to wriggle swiftly.

Moses said, [You throw first.] When they did, their ropes and staffs through their magic seemed to be moving.

He said: Nay! cast down. then lo! their cords and their rods-- it was imaged to him on account of their magic as if they were running.

Moses said, [You throw down first.] Suddenly their ropes and staffs appeared to him, by their magic, to be moving about rapidly,

موسٰی نے کہا کہ نہیں تم ابتدا کرو ایک مرتبہ کیا دیکھا کہ ان کی رسیاں اور لکڑیاں جادو کی بنا پر ایسی لگنے لگیں جیسے سب دوڑ رہی ہوں

موسیٰؑ نے کہا ——نہیں، تم ہی پھینکو—— یکایک اُن کی رسّیاں اور اُن کی لاٹھیاں اُن کے جادو کے زور سے موسیٰؑ کو دَوڑتی ہوئی محسوس ہونے لگیں

موسیٰ نے کہا بلکہ تمہیں ڈالو جبھی ان کی رسیاں اور لاٹھیاں ان کے جادو کے زور سے ان کے خیال میں دوڑتی معلوم ہوئیں

موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے کہا: نہیں۔ بلکہ تم ہی (پہلے) پھینکو! پس اچانک ان کی رسیاں اور لاٹھیاں ان کے جادو کی وجہ سے موسیٰ کو دوڑتی ہوئی محسوس ہوئیں۔

And Moses conceived a fear in his mind.

We said: Fear not! Lo! thou art the higher.

وَأَلْقِ مَا فِى يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَفْ مَا صَنَعُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُوا۟ كَيْدُ سَٰحِرٍۢ ۖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلسَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ

⦿

Throw that which is in thy right hand! It will eat up that which they have made. Lo! that which they have made is but a wizard's artifice, and a wizard shall not be successful to whatever point (of skill) he may attain.

Throw down what is in your right hand, and it will swallow what they have conjured. What they have conjured is only a magician]s trick, and the magician does not fare well wherever he may show up.]

⦿

Throw down what is in your right hand and it will swallow up all that they have performed; theirs is only a magical performance. Magicians can find no happiness in whatever they do.]

⦿

And cast down what is in your right hand; it shall devour what they have wrought; they have wrought only the plan of a magician, and the magician shall not be successful wheresoever he may come from.

Throw down that [staff] which is in your right hand -- it shall swallow up what they have wrought, for what they have wrought is only a magician's trick. A magician shall never thrive, come whence he may.

اور جو کچھ تمہارے ہاتھ میں ہے اسے ڈال دو یہ ان کے سارے کئے دھرے کو چن لے گا ان لوگوں نے جو کچھ کیا ہے وہ صرف جادوگر کی چال ہے اور بس اور جادوگر جہاں بھی جائے کبھی کامیاب نہیں ہوسکتا

پھینک جو کچھ تیرے ہاتھ میں ہے، ابھی اِن کی ساری بناوٹی چیزوں کو نگلے جاتا ہے یہ جو کچھ بنا کر لائے ہیں یہ تو جادوگر کا فریب ہے، اور جادوگر کبھی کامیاب نہیں ہو سکتا، خواہ کسی شان سے وہ آئے——

اور ڈال تو دے جو تیرے داہنے ہاتھ میں ہے اور ان کی بناوٹوں کو نگل جائے گا، وہ جو بناکر لائے ہیں وہ تو جادوگر کا فریب ہے، اور جادوگر کا بھلا نہیں ہوتا کہیں آوے

اور جو تمہارے دائیں ہاتھ میں (عصا) ہے اسے پھینک دو۔ یہ ان کی سب بناوٹی چیزوں کو نگل جائے گا۔ جو کچھ انہوں نے بنایا ہے وہ جادوگر کا فریب ہے اور جادوگر کہیں بھی آئے (جائے) کبھی کامیاب نہیں ہو سکتا۔

فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سُجَّدًۭا قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ هَٰرُونَ وَمُوسَىٰ

Then the wizards were (all) flung down prostrate, crying: We believe in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.

Thereat the magicians fell down prostrating. They said, [We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses!]

And the magicians were cast down making obeisance; they said: We believe in the Lord of Haroun and Musa.

(Pharaoh) said: Ye put faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he is your chief who taught you magic. Now surely I shall cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and I shall crucify you on the trunks of palm trees, and ye shall know for certain which of us hath sterner and more lasting punishment.

فرعون نے کہا —— تم ایمان لے آئے قبل اس کے کہ میں تمہیں اس کی اجازت دیتا؟ معلوم ہو گیا کہ یہ تمہارا گرو ہے جس نے تمہیں جادوگری سکھائی تھی اچھا، اب میں تمہارے ہاتھ پاؤں مخالف سمتوں سے کٹواتا ہوں اور کھجور کے تنوں پر تم کو سُولی دیتا ہوں پھر تمہیں پتہ چل جائے گا کہ ہم دونوں میں سے کس کا عذاب زیادہ سخت اور دیر پا ہے—— (یعنی میں تمہیں زیادہ سخت سزا دے سکتا ہوں یا موسیٰؑ)

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.
