قَالُوا۟

قَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَبَانَآ إِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوسُفَ عِندَ مَتَٰعِنَا فَأَكَلَهُ ٱلذِّئْبُ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍۢ لَّنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صَٰدِقِينَ

Saying: O our father! We went racing one with another, and left Joseph by our things, and the wolf devoured him, and thou believest not our saying even when we speak the truth.

They said, [Father! We had gone racing and left Joseph with our things, whereat the wolf ate him. But you will not believe us even if we spoke truly.]

and saying, [Father, we went playing and left Joseph with our belongings. A wild-beast came and devoured him. We realize that you will not believe us even though we are telling the truth].

١٨

وَجَآءُو عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِۦ بِدَمٍۢ كَذِبٍۢ ۚ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًۭا ۖ فَصَبْرٌۭ جَمِيلٌۭ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ

⦿

And they came with false blood on his shirt. He said: Nay, but your minds have beguiled you into something. (My course is) comely patience. And Allah it is Whose help is to be sought in that (predicament) which ye describe.

And they produced sham blood on his shirt. He said, [No, your souls have made a matter seem decorous to you. Yet patience is graceful, and Allah is my resort against what you allege.]

They presented him with a shirt stained with false blood. Jacob said, [Your souls have tempted you in this matter. Let us be patient and beg assistance from God if what you say is true.]

And they brought his shirt with false blood upon it. He said: Nay, your souls have made the matter light for you, but patience is good and Allah is He Whose help is sought for against what you describe.

And they showed him their brother's shirt, stained with false blood. [No!] he cried. [Your souls have tempted you to do something evil! But it is best to be patient: God alone can help me bear the loss you speak of.]

اور یوسف کے کرتے پر جھوٹا خون لگاکر لے آئے -یعقوب نے کہا کہ یہ بات صرف تمہارے دل نے گڑھی ہے لہذا میرا راستہ صبر جمیل کا ہے اور اللہ تمہارے بیان کے مقابلہ میں میرا مددگارہے

اور وہ یوسفؑ کے قمیص پر جھوٹ موٹ کا خون لگا کر آئے تھے یہ سن کر ان کے باپ نے کہا ——بلکہ تمہارے نفس نے تمہارے لیے ایک بڑے کام کو آسان بنا دیا اچھا، صبر کروں گا اور بخوبی کروں گا، جو بات تم بنا رہے ہو اس پر اللہ ہی سے مدد مانگی جا سکتی ہے——

اور اس کے کر ُتے پر ایک جھوٹا خون لگا لائے کہا بلکہ تمہارے دلوں نے ایک بات تمہارے واسطے بنالی ہے تو صبر اچھا، اور اللہ ہی مدد چاہتا ہوں ان باتوں پر جو تم بتارہے ہو

اور وہ اس (یوسف (ع)) کے کُرتے پر جھوٹا خون لگا کر لائے۔ آپ (ع) نے کہا (یہ جھوٹ ہے) بلکہ تمہارے نفسوں نے (اپنے بچاؤ کیلئے) یہ بات گھڑ کر تمہیں خوشنما دکھا دی ہے (بہرحال اس سانحہ پر) صبر کرنا ہی بہتر ہے اور جو کچھ تم بیان کر رہے ہو اس سلسلہ میں اللہ ہی سے مدد مانگی جا سکتی ہے۔

وَجَآءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌۭ فَأَرْسَلُوا۟ وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ يَٰبُشْرَىٰ هَٰذَا غُلَٰمٌۭ ۚ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَٰعَةًۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

And there came a caravan, and they sent their waterdrawer. He let down his pail (into the pit). He said: Good luck! Here is a youth. And they hid him as a treasure, and Allah was Aware of what they did.

There came a caravan, and they sent their water-drawer, who let down his bucket. [Good news!] he said. [This is a young boy!] So they hid him as [a piece of] merchandise, and Allah knew best what they were doing.

A caravan came by and sent their water carrier out to the well. When he drew out Joseph in his bucket, he shouted, [Glad news, a young boy!] The people of the caravan hid him amongst their belongings. God knows well what they do.

And there came travellers and they sent their water-drawer and he let down his bucket. He said: O good news! this is a youth; and they concealed him as an article of merchandise, and Allah knew what they did.

And there came a caravan of travellers and they sent their water-drawer to draw water from the well. He let down his bucket into the well and he exclaimed, [Oh, what a lucky find, here is a boy!] They hid him like a piece of merchandise, but God knew well what they did.

اور وہاں ایک قافلہ آیا جس کے پانی نکالنے والے نے اپنا ڈول کنویں میں ڈالا تو آواز دی ارے واہ یہ تو بچہ ہے اور اسے ایک قیمتی سرمایہ سمجھ کر چھپالیا اور اللہ ان کے اعمال سے خوب باخبر ہے

ادھر ایک قافلہ آیا اور اُس نے اپنے سقے کو پانی لانے کے لیے بھیجا سقے نے جو کنویں میں ڈول ڈالا تو (یوسفؑ کو دیکھ کر) پکار اٹھا ——مبارک ہو، یہاں تو ایک لڑکا ہے—— ان لوگوں نے اس کو مال تجارت سمجھ کر چھپا لیا، حالانکہ جو کچھ وہ کر رہے تھے خدا اس سے باخبر تھا

اور ایک قافلہ آیا انہوں نے اپنا پانی لانے والا بھیجا تو اس نے اپنا ڈول ڈال بولا آہا کیسی خوشی کی بات ہے یہ تو ایک لڑکا ہے اور اسے ایک پونجی بناکر چھپالیا اور اللہ جانتا ہے جو وہ کرتے ہیں،

اور ایک قافلہ آیا (اور وہاں اترا) تو انہوں نے (پانی لانے کیلئے) اپنا سقا بھیجا۔ پس اس نے جونہی اپنا ڈول ڈالا۔ (تو یوسف اس میں بیٹھ گئے جب ڈول کھینچا) تو پکار اٹھا۔ مبارک باد یہ تو ایک لڑکا ہے اور ان لوگوں نے اسے سرمایۂ تجارت سمجھ کر چھپا رکھا اور وہ لوگ جو کچھ کر رہے تھے اللہ اس سے خوب واقف تھا۔

And they sold him for a low price, a number of silver coins; and they attached no value to him.

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِى ٱشْتَرَىٰهُ مِن مِّصْرَ لِٱمْرَأَتِهِۦٓ أَكْرِمِى مَثْوَىٰهُ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَنفَعَنَآ أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدًۭا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ مِن تَأْوِيلِ ٱلْأَحَادِيثِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرِهِۦ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

⦿

And he of Egypt who purchased him said unto his wife: Receive him honourably. Perchance he may prove useful to us or we may adopt him as a son. Thus we established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allah was predominant in His career, but most of mankind know not.

The man from Egypt who had bought him said to his wife, [Give him an honourable place [in the household]. Maybe he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.] Thus We established Joseph in the land and that We might teach him the interpretation of dreams. Allah has [full] command of His affairs, but most people do not know.

The Egyptian who bought him said to his wife, [Be kind to him, perhaps he will be of some benefit to us or we may adopt him.] Thus, We settled Joseph in the land so that We could teach him the interpretation of dreams. God has full control over His affairs but most people do not know.

And the Egyptian who bought him said to his wife: Give him an honorable abode, maybe he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son. And thus did We establish Yusuf in the land and that We might teach him the interpretation of sayings; and Allah is the master of His affair, but most people do not know.

The Egyptian who bought him said to his wife, [Lodge him honourably, he may prove of benefit to us, or we may even adopt him as our son.] Thus We established Joseph in the land, so that We might teach him the true meaning of events. God has power over all things. However, most people do not know this.

اور مصر کے جس شخص نے انہیں خریدا تھا اس نے اپنی بیوی سے کہاکہ اسے عزّت و احترام کے ساتھ رکھو شاید یہ ہمیں کوئی فائدہ پہنچائے یا ہم اسے اپنا فرزند بنالیں اور اس طرح ہم نے یوسف کو زمین میں اقتدار دیا اور تاکہ اس طرح انہیں خوابوں کی تعبیر کا علم سکھائیں اور اللہ اپنے کام پر غلبہ رکھنے والا ہے یہ اور بات ہے کہ اکثر لوگوں کو اس کا علم نہیں ہے

مصر کے جس شخص نے اسے خریدا اس نے اپنی بیوی سے کہا ——اِس کو اچھی طرح رکھنا، بعید نہیں کہ یہ ہمارے لیے مفید ثابت ہو یا ہم اسے بیٹا بنا لیں—— اس طرح ہم نے یوسفؑ کے لیے اُس سرزمین میں قدم جمانے کی صورت نکالی اور اسے معاملہ فہمی کی تعلیم دینے کا انتظام کیا اللہ اپنا کام کر کے رہتا ہے، مگر اکثر لوگ جانتے نہیں ہیں

اور مصر کے جس شخص نے اسے خریدا وہ اپنی عورت سے بولا انہیں عزت سے رکھو شاید ان سے ہمیں نفع پہنچے یا ان کو ہم بیٹا بنالیں اور اسی طرح ہم نے یوسف کو اس زمین میں جماؤ (رہنے کا ٹھکانا) دیا اور اس لیے کہ اسے باتوں کا انجام سکھائیں ف) اور اللہ اپنے کام پر غالب ہے مگر اکثر آدمی نہیں جانتے،

اور پھر (اس قافلہ والوں سے) مصر کے جس شخص (عزیزِ مصر) نے اسے (دوبارہ) خریدا تھا اس نے اپنی بیوی (زلیخا) سے کہا اسے عزت کے ساتھ رکھنا ہو سکتا ہے کہ ہمیں کچھ فائدہ پہنچائے یا ہم اسے اپنا بیٹا بنا لیں! اور اسی طرح (حکمتِ عملی سے) ہم نے اس (یوسف (ع)) کو سر زمینِ مصر میں تمکین دی (زمین ہموار کی تاکہ اسے اقتدار کیلئے منتخب کریں) اور خوابوں کی تعبیر کا علم عطا کریں اور اللہ اپنے ہر کام پر غالب ہے (اور اس کے انجام دینے پر قادر ہے) لیکن اکثر لوگ (یہ حقیقت) نہیں جانتے۔

And And when he reached his prime We gave him wisdom and knowledge. Thus We reward the good.

اور جب اپنی پوری قوت کو پہنچا ہم نے اسے حکم اور علم عطا فرمایا اور ہم ایسا ہی صلہ دیتے ہیں نیکوں کو،

وَرَٰوَدَتْهُ ٱلَّتِى هُوَ فِى بَيْتِهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ وَغَلَّقَتِ ٱلْأَبْوَٰبَ وَقَالَتْ هَيْتَ لَكَ ۚ قَالَ مَعَاذَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَحْسَنَ مَثْوَاىَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

And she, in whose house he was, asked of him an evil act. She bolted the doors and said: Come! He said: I seek refuge in Allah! Lo! he is my lord, who hath treated me honourably. Lo! wrong-doers never prosper.

The woman in whose house he was, solicited him. She closed the doors and said, [Come!!] He said, [God forbid! Indeed He is my Lord; He has given me a good abode. Indeed the wrongdoers are not felicitous.]

اور پھر وہ (یوسف) جس عورت کے گھر میں تھا وہ اپنی مطلب براری کے لئے اس پر ڈورے ڈالنے لگی (چنانچہ) ایک دن سب دروازے بند کر دیے اور کہا بس آجاؤ! یوسف نے کہا معاذ اللہ! (اللہ کی پناہ) وہ (تیرا شوہر) میرا مربی و محسن ہے اس نے مجھے بڑی عزت سے (اپنے گھر میں) ٹھہرایا ہے تو اس کے بدلے میں اس کی امانت میں خیانت کروں؟ (اے معاذ اللہ) بے شک ظالم کبھی فلاح نہیں پاتے۔

وَلَقَدْ هَمَّتْ بِهِۦ ۖ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوْلَآ أَن رَّءَا بُرْهَٰنَ رَبِّهِۦ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَٱلْفَحْشَآءَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

She verily desired him, and he would have desired her if it had not been that he saw the argument of his Lord. Thus it was, that We might ward off from him evil and lewdness. Lo! he was of Our chosen slaves.

She certainly made for him; and he would have made for her [too] had he not beheld the proof of his Lord. So it was, that We might turn away from him all evil and indecency. He was indeed one of Our dedicated servants.

وَٱسْتَبَقَا ٱلْبَابَ وَقَدَّتْ قَمِيصَهُۥ مِن دُبُرٍۢ وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَا ٱلْبَابِ ۚ قَالَتْ مَا جَزَآءُ مَنْ أَرَادَ بِأَهْلِكَ سُوٓءًا إِلَّآ أَن يُسْجَنَ أَوْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ

And they raced with one another to the door, and she tore his shirt from behind, and they met her lord and master at the door. She said: What shall be his reward, who wisheth evil to thy folk, save prison or a painful doom?

آخر کار یوسفؑ اور وہ آگے پیچھے دروازے کی طرف بھاگے اور اس نے پیچھے سے یوسفؑ کا قمیص (کھینچ کر) پھاڑ دیا دروازے پر دونوں نے اس کے شوہر کو موجود پایا اسے دیکھتے ہی عورت کہنے لگی، ——کیا سزا ہے اس شخص کی جو تیری گھر والی پر نیت خراب کرے؟ اِس کے سوا اور کیا سزا ہوسکتی ہے کہ وہ قید کیا جائے یا اسے سخت عذاب دیا جائے——

اور دونوں دروازے کی طرف دوڑے اور عورت نے اس کا کر ُتا پیچھے سے چیر لیا اور دونوں کو عورت کا میاں دروازے کے پاس ملا بولی کیا سزا ہے اس کی جس نے تیری گھر والی سے بدی چاہی مگر یہ کہ قید کیا جائے یا دکھ کی مار

اور وہ دونوں ایک دوسرے سے پہلے دروازہ تک پہنچنے کے لئے دوڑے اور اس عورت نے اس مرد (یوسف) کا کرتہ پیچھے سے (کھینچ کر) پھاڑ دیا اور پھر دونوں نے اس عورت کے خاوند کو دروازے کے پاس (کھڑا ہوا) پایا۔ اسے دیکھتے ہی اپنی بے گناہی ثابت کرنے کے لیے اس عورت نے بات بنائی اور کہا جو شخص تمہاری بیوی کے ساتھ بدکاری کرنے کا ارادہ کرے اس کی سزا اس کے سوا اور کیا ہے کہ اسے قید کر دیا جائے یا کوئی دردناک عذاب دیا جائے۔

(Joseph) said: She it was who asked of me an evil act. And a witness of her own folk testified: If his shirt is torn from before, then she speaketh truth and he is of the liars.

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.

Due Credits:

This website was possible by help of many people and forums who helped me to learn Arabic, Philosophy, Law, Psychology, and PHP and other Web scripts. To be honest, I do not even know the names of many but I did learn from them. Some of these people were already dead by the time I read their input.

The entire code of this website is available for the same reason, that what they taught me, I can only pay it forward.

The Arabic text of the Quran was obtained from Tanzil. The additional translations were also obtained from Tanzil from this link.

The social-sharing images of verses were obtained from Legacy Quran.com, and were then resized for proper social-media display.
