قَالُوا۟
They said,
يَٰصَٰلِحُ
[O Saleh!
قَدْ
surely
كُنتَ
you were
فِينَا
within us
مَرْجُوًّۭا
as someone who had hope
قَبْلَ
before
هَٰذَآ
this.
ۖ
أَتَنْهَىٰنَآ
Do you want us to refrain,
أَن
that
نَّعْبُدَ
we serve
مَا
what
يَعْبُدُ
obeyed
ءَابَآؤُنَا
our elders?
وَإِنَّنَا
While indeed we
لَفِى
are in
شَكٍّۢ
doubt
مِّمَّا
of what
تَدْعُونَآ
you call us
إِلَيْهِ
towards it
مُرِيبٍۢ
being suspicious.]
١١
٦٢
قَالُوا۟ يَٰصَٰلِحُ قَدْ كُنتَ فِينَا مَرْجُوًّۭا قَبْلَ هَٰذَآ ۖ أَتَنْهَىٰنَآ أَن نَّعْبُدَ مَا يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا وَإِنَّنَا لَفِى شَكٍّۢ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَآ إِلَيْهِ مُرِيبٍۢ
They said, [O Saleh! surely you were within us as someone who had hope before this. Do you want us to refrain, that we serve what obeyed our elders? While indeed we are in doubt of what you call us towards it being suspicious.]

They said: O Salih! Thou hast been among us hitherto as that wherein our hope was placed. Dost thou ask us not to worship what our fathers worshipped? Lo! we verily are in grave doubt concerning that to which thou callest us.

They said, [O Salih! You were a source of hope to us before this. Do you forbid us to worship what our fathers have been worshiping? Indeed we have grave doubts concerning that to which you invite us.]

ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ اے صالح اس سے پہلے تم سے بڑی امیدیں وابستہ تھیں کیا تم اس بات سے روکتے ہو کہ ہم اپنے بزرگوں کے معبودوں کی پرستش کریں -ہم یقینا تمہاری دعوت کی طرف سے شک اور شبہ میں ہیں

انہوں نے کہا ——اے صالحؑ، اس سے پہلے تو ہمارے درمیان ایسا شخص تھا جس سے بڑی توقعات وابستہ تھیں کیا تو ہمیں ان معبودوں کی پرستش سے روکنا چاہتا ہے جن کی پرستش ہمارے باپ دادا کرتے تھے؟ تو جس طریقے کی طرف ہمیں بلا رہا ہے اس کے بارے میں ہم کو سخت شبہ ہے جس نے ہمیں خلجان میں ڈال رکھا ہے——

بولے اے صا لح! اس سے پہلے تو تم ہم میں ہونہار معلوم ہوتے تھے کیا تم ہمیں اس سے منع کرتے ہو کہ اپنے باپ دادا کے معبودوں کو پوجیں اور بیشک جس بات کی طرف ہمیں بلاتے ہو ہم اس سے ایک بڑے دھوکا ڈالنے والے شک میں ہیں،

انہوں نے کہا اے صالح! اس سے پہلے تو تو ہمارے اندر ایک ایسا شخص تھا جس سے (بڑی) امیدیں وابستہ تھیں کیا تم ہمیں اس سے روکتے ہو کہ ہم ان (معبودوں) کی پرستش نہ کریں جن کی ہمارے باپ دادا پرستش کیا کرتے تھے؟ اور ہمیں تو اس بات میں بڑا ہی شک ہے جس کی طرف تم ہمیں دعوت دیتے ہو۔

قَالَ
(Saleh) said,
يَٰقَوْمِ
[O nation!
أَرَءَيْتُمْ
Do you see
إِن
that
كُنتُ
I am
عَلَىٰ
upon
بَيِّنَةٍۢ
clarity
مِّن
from
رَّبِّى
my Rabb,
وَءَاتَىٰنِى
and have been given
مِنْهُ
from Him
رَحْمَةًۭ
a blessing,
فَمَن
then who will
يَنصُرُنِى
help me
مِنَ
against
ٱللَّهِ
the One
إِنْ
if
عَصَيْتُهُۥ
I rebel against Him?
ۖ
فَمَا
Thus what
تَزِيدُونَنِى
you will increase in me
غَيْرَ
except
تَخْسِيرٍۢ
losses?]
١١
٦٣
قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّى وَءَاتَىٰنِى مِنْهُ رَحْمَةًۭ فَمَن يَنصُرُنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِنْ عَصَيْتُهُۥ ۖ فَمَا تَزِيدُونَنِى غَيْرَ تَخْسِيرٍۢ
(Saleh) said, [O nation! Do you see that I am upon clarity from my Rabb, and have been given from Him a blessing, then who will help me against the One if I rebel against Him? Thus what you will increase in me except losses?]

He said: O my people! Bethink you: if I am (acting) on clear proof from my Lord and there hath come unto me a mercy from Him, who will save me from Allah if I disobey Him? Ye would add to me naught save perdition.

He said, [O my people! Tell me, should I stand on a manifest proof from my Lord, and He has granted me His own mercy, who will protect me from Allah should I disobey Him? For then you will increase me in nothing but loss.

He said, [My people, think. I have received authoritative evidence and mercy from my Lord, so who will protect me from God if I disobey Him? You certainly want to destroy me.

He said: O my people! tell me if I have clear proof from my Lord and He has granted to me mercy from Himself-- who will then help me against Allah if I disobey Him? Therefore you do not add to me other than loss:

He said, [O my people, tell me: if I have clear evidence from my Lord, and He has granted His mercy, who then will support me against God, if I disobey Him? You would only make my loss greater.

انہوں نے کہا اے قوم تمہارا کیا خیال ہے کہ اگر میں اپنے پروردگار کی طرف سے دلیل رکھتا ہوں اور اس نے مجھے رحمت عطا کی ہے تو اگر میں اس کی نافرمانی کروں گا تو اس کے مقابلہ میں کون میری مدد کرسکے گا تم تو گھاٹے میں اضافہ کے علاوہ کچھ نہیں کرسکتے ہو

صالحؑ نے کہا ——اے برادران قوم، تم نے کچھ اس بات پر بھی غور کیا کہ اگر میں اپنے رب کی طرف سے ایک صاف شہادت رکھتا تھا، اور پھر اس نے اپنی رحمت سے بھی مجھ کو نواز دیا تو اِس کے بعد اللہ کی پکڑ سے مجھے کون بچائے گا اگر میں اُس کی نافرمانی کروں؟ تم میرے کس کام آ سکتے ہو سوائے اس کے کہ مجھے اور زیادہ خسارے میں ڈال دو

صالح(ع) نے کہا اے میری قوم! کیا تم نے کبھی اس بات پر غور کیا ہے کہ اگر میں اپنے پروردگار کی طرف سے ایک روشن دلیل پر ہوں اور اس نے مجھے اپنی خاص رحمت بھی عطا فرمائی ہے تو اگر میں اس کی نافرمانی کروں تو اس کے مقابلہ میں کون میری مدد کرے گا؟ تم تو میرے خسارے میں اضافہ کے سوا اور کچھ نہیں کر سکتے۔

وَيَٰقَوْمِ
[And O nation!
هَٰذِهِۦ
This is
نَاقَةُ
elegance of
ٱللَّهِ
the One
لَكُمْ
to you
ءَايَةًۭ
as a sign,
فَذَرُوهَا
thus allow it to
تَأْكُلْ
shine
فِىٓ
in
أَرْضِ
land of
ٱللَّهِ
the One,
وَلَا
and do not
تَمَسُّوهَا
feel it
بِسُوٓءٍۢ
with malice,
فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ
because then you will be taken by
عَذَابٌۭ
a punishment
قَرِيبٌۭ
that is close.]
١١
٦٤
وَيَٰقَوْمِ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ ءَايَةًۭ فَذَرُوهَا تَأْكُلْ فِىٓ أَرْضِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٍۢ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابٌۭ قَرِيبٌۭ
[And O nation! This is elegance of the One to you as a sign, thus allow it to shine in land of the One, and do not feel it with malice, because then you will be taken by a punishment that is close.]

O my people! This is the camel of Allah, a token unto you, so suffer her to feed in Allah's earth, and touch her not with harm lest a near torment seize you.

O my people! This she-camel of Allah is a sign for you. Let her graze [freely] in Allah]s land, and do not cause her any harm, for then you shall be seized by a prompt punishment.]

⦿
My people, this is the she-camel of God, a miracle (to support the truth which has been brought) to you. Leave her to graze in the land of God. Do not harm her with your evil deeds lest torment will suddenly strike you.]

And, O my people! this will be (as) Allah's she-camel for you, a sign; therefore leave her to pasture on Allah's earth and do not touch her with evil, for then a near chastisement will overtake you.

My people! This she-camel of God is a sign for you. So leave her alone to graze on God's earth. And do her no harm, lest you should be instantly afflicted with a torment.]

اے قوم یہ ناقہ اللہ کی طرف سے ایک نشانی ہے اسے آزاد چھوڑ دو تاکہ زمین هخدا میں چین سے کھائے اور اسے کسی طرح کی تکلیف نہ دینا کہ تمہیں جلدی ہی کوئی عذاب اپنی گرفت میں لے لے

اور اے میری قوم کے لوگو، دیکھو یہ اللہ کی اونٹنی تمہارے لیے ایک نشانی ہے اِسے خدا کی زمین میں چرنے کے لیے آزاد چھوڑ دو اِس سے ذرا تعرض نہ کرنا ورنہ کچھ زیادہ دیر نہ گزرے گی کہ تم پر خدا کا عذاب آ جائے گا——

اور اے میری قوم! یہ اللہ کا ناقہ ہے تمہارے لیے نشانی تو اسے چھوڑ دو کہ اللہ کی زمین میں کھائے اور اسے بری طرح ہاتھ نہ لگانا کہ تم کو نزدیک عذاب پہنچے گا

اور اے میری قوم! یہ اللہ کی خاص اونٹنی ہے جو تمہارے لئے ایک خاص نشانی (معجزہ) ہے پس اسے آزاد چھوڑ دو۔ تاکہ اللہ کی زمین سے کھائے اور خبردار اسے کسی قسم کی اذیت نہ پہنچانا۔ ورنہ بہت جلد عذاب تمہیں آپکڑے گا۔

فَعَقَرُوهَا
But they captured it.
فَقَالَ
Thus said (Saleh),
تَمَتَّعُوا۟
[Enjoy yourself
فِى
in
دَارِكُمْ
your circles
ثَلَٰثَةَ
three
أَيَّامٍۢ
periods.
ۖ
ذَٰلِكَ
That is a
وَعْدٌ
promise
غَيْرُ
without
مَكْذُوبٍۢ
a lie.]
١١
٦٥
فَعَقَرُوهَا فَقَالَ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ فِى دَارِكُمْ ثَلَٰثَةَ أَيَّامٍۢ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ وَعْدٌ غَيْرُ مَكْذُوبٍۢ
But they captured it. Thus said (Saleh), [Enjoy yourself in your circles three periods. That is a promise without a lie.]

But they hamstrung her, and then he said: Enjoy life in your dwelling-place three days! This is a threat that will not be belied.

But they hamstrung her, whereupon he said, [Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three days: that is a promise not to be belied!]

When they slew the she-camel, Salih told them, [You have only three days to enjoy living in your homes (before you will be struck by the torment). This is an inevitable prophecy.]

But they slew her, so he said: Enjoy yourselves in your abode for three days, that is a promise not to be belied.

But they hamstrung her. He [Salih] said, [Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three more days. This warning will not prove false.]

اس کے بعد بھی ان لوگوں نے اس کی کونچیں کاٹ دیں تو صالح نے کہا کہ اب اپنے گھروں میں تین دن تک اور آرام کرو کہ یہ وعدہ الٰہی ہے جو غلط نہیں ہوسکتا ہے

مگر انہوں نے اونٹنی کو مار ڈالا اس پر صالحؑ نے اُن کو خبردار کر دیا کہ ——بس اب تین دن اپنے گھروں میں اور رہ بس لو یہ ایسی میعاد ہے جو جھوٹی نہ ثابت ہوگی——

تو انہوں نے اس کی کونچیں کاٹیں تو صا لح نے کہا اپنے گھرو ں میں تین دن اور برت لو (فائدہ اٹھالو) یہ وعدہ ہے کہ جھوٹا نہ ہوگا

پس ان لوگوں نے اس کی کونچیں کاٹ دیں (اسے مار ڈالا) تب صالح(ع) نے کہا کہ اب تین دن تک اپنے گھروں میں فائدہ اٹھا لو (کھا پی لو) یہ وہ وعدہ ہے جو جھوٹا نہیں ہے۔

Then when
جَآءَ
came
أَمْرُنَا
Our command,
نَجَّيْنَا
We saved
صَٰلِحًۭا
Saleh
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and the ones who
ءَامَنُوا۟
had conviction
مَعَهُۥ
with him
بِرَحْمَةٍۢ
with grace
مِّنَّا
from Us,
وَمِنْ
and from
خِزْىِ
humiliation
يَوْمِئِذٍ
that day;
ۗ
إِنَّ
assuredly
رَبَّكَ
your Rabb
هُوَ
is
ٱلْقَوِىُّ
the Most Powerful,
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
the Most Strong.
١١
٦٦
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا نَجَّيْنَا صَٰلِحًۭا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحْمَةٍۢ مِّنَّا وَمِنْ خِزْىِ يَوْمِئِذٍ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْقَوِىُّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ
Then when came Our command, We saved Saleh and the ones who had conviction with him with grace from Us, and from humiliation that day; assuredly your Rabb is the Most Powerful, the Most Strong.

So, when Our commandment came to pass, We saved Salih, and those who believed with him, by a mercy from Us, from the ignominy of that day. Lo, thy Lord! He is the Strong, the Mighty.

So when Our edict came, We delivered Salih and the faithful who were with him by a mercy from Us and from the [punishment and] disgrace of that day. Your Lord is indeed the All-strong, the All-mighty.

When Our decree came to pass. We mercifully saved Salih and his faithful followers from that day's ignominy. Your Lord is certainly Mighty and Majestic.

So when Our decree came to pass, We delivered Salih and those who believed with him by mercy from Us, and (We saved them) from the disgrace of that day; surely your Lord is the Strong, the Mighty.

اس کے بعد جب ہمارا حکم عذاب آپہنچا تو ہم نے صالح اور ان کے ساتھ کے صاحبانِ ایمان کو اپنی رحمت سے اپنے عذاب اور اس دن کی رسوائی سے بچالیا کہ تمہارا پروردگار صاحب هقوت اور سب پر غالب ہے

آخر کار جب ہمارے فیصلے کا وقت آ گیا تو ہم نے اپنی رحمت سے صالحؑ کو اور اُن لوگوں کو جو اس کے ساتھ ایمان لائے تھے بچا لیا اور اُس دن کی رسوائی سے ان کو محفوظ رکھا بے شک تیرا رب ہی دراصل طاقتور اور بالا دست ہے

پھر جب ہمارا حکم آیا ہم نے صا لح اور اس کے ساتھ کے مسلمانوں کو اپنی رحمت فرماکر بچالیا اور اس دن کی رسوائی سے، بیشک تمہارا رب قومی عزت والا ہے،

پس جب ہمارا حکم (عذاب) آگیا تو ہم نے اپنی رحمت سے صالح اور اس کے ساتھ ایمان لانے والوں کو نجات دے دی اور اس دن کی رسوائی سے بچا لیا بے شک پروردگار بڑا طاقتور، بڑا زبردست ہے۔

وَأَخَذَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دِيَٰرِهِمْ جَٰثِمِينَ

And the (awful) Cry overtook those who did wrong, so that morning found them prostrate in their dwellings,

And Our messengers cam unto Abraham with good news. They said: Peace! He answered: Peace! and delayed not to bring a roasted calf.

فَلَمَّا رَءَآ أَيْدِيَهُمْ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةًۭ ۚ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍۢ

And when he saw their hands reached not to it, he mistrusted them and conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! Lo! we are sent unto the folk of Lot.

But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he took them amiss and felt a fear of them. They said, [Do not be afraid. We have been sent to the people of Lot.]

but when he saw that their hands did not reach out for it, he could not know who they were and became afraid of them. They said, [Do not be afraid; we are God's angelic Messengers sent to the people of Lot.]

And his wife, standing by laughed when We gave her good tidings (of the birth) of Isaac, and, after Isaac, of Jacob.

This website is a work of passion. It exists only for a couple of reasons:

1) I wanted to understand the Book without involving any second-party sources of guidance i.e. exegesis, or Asbab-e-Nuzul, or extra-Quranic ahadith, etc.
2) You must also know what the bare truth is, so we can work together.

Because the process must be transparent, the entire website is available for you to download. You can go through the code, and if you can make any improvements to this process, you are most welcome to. It is a humble request to update me regarding the improvements so I can also update myself.

To be honest, I do not even know the names of many but I did learn from them. Some of these people were already dead by the time I read their input.

The Arabic text of the Quran was obtained from Tanzil. The additional translations were also obtained from Tanzil from this link.
